UPDATE: Can This Floor Plan Be Reworked Into a Better Forever Home?
This is a follow-up to my original post: “Can This Floor Plan Be Reworked Into a Better Forever Home?”
I couldn’t figure out how to edit that post or add more photos, so I’m making a new one and sharing both the current layouts and some remodel layout sketches.
The short version: the current layout works, but it feels like the house has some wasted space while the areas we use the most are undersized. The biggest issues are the small pantry and the kitchen feeling smaller than it should for the size of the home. At the same time, the formal dining room and office don’t get used very often, so I’m trying to see if that square footage can be reallocated in a smarter way.
The general idea I’m exploring is:
- Create a much larger pantry / working pantry
- Improve the kitchen flow and storage
- Make better use of the formal dining room and office space
- Possibly move the laundry closer to the primary closet
- Keep aging-in-place and long-term livability in mind
- Avoid spending a fortune on a new build if my current home can be improved
Any feedback is appreciated.
