I might have made a terrible decision by uprooting my life

I moved to the states 2 years ago with my partner and dog. Before that I was in Asia for 10 years. I had a solid core friend group, made good money, but I also gained 50lbs and wasn’t the happiest or healthiest. Few years ago my wife got laid off and we decided that, in our late 30s with no kids and me in a director role, we still had the energy to try and start a new chapter, so we moved to NY. Stability is important so I dropped cash and bought us a nice apartment in a nice neighborhood with 80% down payment. Now, what I did not anticipate was me getting laid off too. At first, I thought it was no biggie. I had built a solid career with a portfolio full of prestigious names. Nope. Been looking for work for the past 7 months, nothing. I’m burning through cash and I haven’t been this close to the wire since I was in my 20s. Been keeping our heads above water with the stock market. My wife also works so that’s a relief, but it’s nothing fancy. I’m one or two bad investments away from going red, but she doesn’t know that. The turbulence this admin is causing isn’t helping neither. It’s a little nerve wracking. I understand that this is ultimately my decision to bare, just wanted to vent. I’ve also lost 30 lbs since moving, because everything’s so expensive here and I’m no longer drinking every weekend. Anyway, made some cold soba with Hokkaido scallop sashimi, it’s hot out.
