Using French wire instead of wire protectors

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to share a quick tip; I know this may seem obvious to many, but as a beginner, I wish someone gave me this piece of advice sooner!

I absolutely hate the look of wire protectors; I think they just look so awkward and unsophisticated. For the longest time I skipped the protectors but I know this isn’t great for durability. Then I saw a YouTube tutorial about using French wire instead and it was such a game changer. I love the look!

I’m still not a pro and I’m still learning but thought I’d share :)

Somebody’s watching me

Felix being sneaky. And yes, he is the culprit behind the scratched wallpaper; he liked to play with his own shadow as a kitten…

Issues with tension

Hi everyone!

I’m still a beginner but falling more and more in love with beading!

There is one thing I seem to be struggling with: bead strand tension. Or at least I think this is what the problem is.

As seen in the photos, my beads don’t align and the necklaces warp a bit. I use genuine Toho beads and Fireline.

I do try to pull the thread quite tight, because if I try to make it looser, it shows close to the stop beads and clasp.

Is it really tension that’s the problem or is there something else I am doing wrong?

Thanks so much in advance!

Hi everyone!

I’m a newbie to jewelry-making and so far have mainly worked with glass beads.

I would love to try engraving some steel elements to add to my beaded creations. Nothing big - just tiny engravings like initials etc.

I bought the Beadsmith micro engraver and wondered if anyone has thoughts / advice.

I know it’s not a professional tool but this is exactly why I bought it; I wanted something easy and beginner-friendly.

Has anyone used it? Did you use any kind of protection (masks etc.)? I plan to use it outdoors and wear a respirator.

I’d also love it if you could share your creations in comments!

Thanks so much in advance :)
