(Trial) VSL#3 probiotic improved fatigue in LC patients

A new randomised, placebo controlled trial found that VSL#3 supplementation (looks like it was 4 weeks worth) reduced fatigue by 24.24% in LC patients (fatigue fell in placebo group by 6.06%)

The benefit persisted after patients stopped taking the supplement. Interestingly, multiomic analysis showed an association between microbiota metabolites and immune markers. So it looks as though the supplement didn’t just shift the microbiome, it also helped modulate inflammatory and immune pathways

First of its kind measurement of energy availability in LC brains

A team from Germany did what nobody has directly done until now, they used a technique that assessed phosphorus and its metabolites (that make up ATP) to measure energy availability in the brains of people with Long Covid.

What they found

The concentrations of phosphocreatine and ATP were significantly reduced in a part of the brain called the cingulate cortex in LC patients

The authors concluded that the main problem involved the creatine kinase shuttle. ATP was being created, but once converted into phosphocreatine and shuttled to another part of the cell, something went wrong

If the findings are validated, creatine supplementation may be beneficial

Is this herx or medication reaction?

125mg artemsinin morning + 125mg artemsinin late afternoon for two days (no more taken after this)

On evening of second day start getting feverish, rigors, elevated HR, headaches. These symptoms last for about 10hrs then start to tail off. Then for the next couple nights I get night sweats

This has happened on multiple occasions now but I don’t know if this is a negative reaction to artemsinin or if it’s genuine herx like reaction from babesia and borrelia.

I tested positive for borrelia and bartonella via yIFN ISPOT but the ELISA and BLOT testing was negative

Would really appreciate any insight

Is ISPOT testing with GLXG reliable

GLXG tests are expensive but Dr claims they are reliable, specifically the ISPOT tests that measure T cell response

However, the 2023 VICTORY study seemed to suggest this method produces lots of false positives

Personally, I’m excited to see the results of the trails for the following three interventions:

- Anktiva
- Erase trial (remdesivir)
- Humanity Neurotech head-worn device being investigated by Dr Putrino

You are the strongest people I know

From my own experiences, I know just how incredibly strong you are.

The relentless cell sapping fatigue, the loss of identity, crippling cognitive dysfunction like every synapse is firing through treacle, the constant pain, the misunderstanding and gaslighting of friends, family and Doctors, the cycle of trying over and over only to be met with disappointment, the heart wrenching loneliness, the delayed punishment for trying to do more, and of course the longing to live and love again.

Despite all of this, you wake up in the morning (if you even slept) and fight once more. You latch on to those small moments of joy and hope that provide just enough sustenance to keep you going.

You are and always will be stronger than anyone around you knows or could ever appreciate, but I see you. We see you. You are not alone.

Anyone focussed primarily on boosting the immune system?

Interested to hear if anyone has focussed on targeting the parts of our immune system that may be weak or being manipulated?

For instance with things like: AHCC, timeline urolithin A, beta glucans, certain immune boosting probiotics like bifido longum BB536, higher dose Apolactoferrin etc

I personally believe many of us have a high pathogen burden and that supporting the immune system may be our best chance of reducing this burden as these pathogens are very smart and can withstand many antivirals, antibiotics etc

How to track cognitive exertion?

I’m much better at physical pacing than I used to be but still really struggle with cognitive pacing. Is there a device or a particular method people use to help them pace in this way?
