Plexamp v4.50.20-beta.4 Released

Plexamp v4.50.20-beta.4 through beta.13

Catching up on a run of betas I hadn’t posted here. Desktop has these on the beta channel now and iOS is on TestFlight. Google Play is a few betas behind because of long review times, so if you’re on Android and don’t want to wait, grab the APK from https://plexamp.plex.tv/downloads.html. The big ones: downloads are a lot more dependable, and Plexamp speaks your language again.

Added

  • Settings search lives in the header: pull down to reveal it on iOS, or tap the search icon on Android.
  • iOS: Caldera speakers can be calibrated one at a time from Settings > Multiroom, and rooms use the result to stay in sync. This needs the next Caldera beta, which isn’t out yet.
  • iOS: Screen headers use the system’s glass buttons and frost as content scrolls under them.
  • Android: Screen headers use the system’s title type and fill with the album’s colors as you scroll.
  • Downloaded hubs on Home open into a full grid.

Fixed

  • Plexamp is in your phone’s language again, instead of always English.
  • Downloads keep going after you leave the app, and pick up again when a server comes back.
  • With cellular downloads off, downloads wait for wifi, including in the background.
  • Covers and waveforms for downloads arrive as each item finishes, and are fetched again if the server missed them.
  • Downloads restored onto a new phone are fetched again instead of showing as downloaded with nothing to play.
  • Switching users no longer signs you out when you tap more than once.
  • Moving playback to a paused player no longer fails with “Could not switch to player”.
  • Your Plex token now stays encrypted on your network, and only goes to servers and players Plexamp has verified.
  • Bluetooth next and previous skip within an audiobook or podcast when Long-form Remote Skip is on.
  • Brand headings in the EQ preset list are no longer cut off.
  • CarPlay/Android Auto: the artist and album of a song from another server open instead of failing to load.
  • CarPlay: starting a radio from Recent Plays works again.
  • CarPlay: Now Playing should no longer squash the album name to “…”.
  • iOS: album art should now show on more Bluetooth car displays.
  • iOS: the equalizer recognizes your headphones again and switches to their preset.
  • iOS: other devices can reach Plexamp after it has been in the background.
  • iOS: long titles no longer run under the header buttons, and iPad layouts no longer leave gaps.
  • Android: other apps on your phone can no longer use Plexamp to make requests with your Plex token.
  • Android: headphone and car buttons no longer crash Plexamp after a long time in the background.
  • Android: volume buttons control the player you’re remote controlling again, including from the lock screen.
  • Android: the visualizer no longer draws over menus, and keeps moving when you come back to the player.
  • macOS: pulling down at the top of a screen no longer shows a grey strip.

Plex Announcement - Audio Enhancements: Boost Dialog & Normalize Loudness

Hey all -

We’ve all had this evening: you nudge the volume up to catch a whispered line, and three seconds later an explosion wakes the entire house.

Today we’re bringing two new audio playback options to Plex Pass subscribers — Boost Dialog and Normalize Loudness —available now with Plex Media Server 1.43.4.

Boost Dialog

Isolates the frequencies where dialog lives and brings them forward, so quiet conversations are easier to follow without turning everything else up with them.

Normalize Loudness

Keeps audio at a comfortable, consistent level and takes the edge off very loud scenes — no more reaching for the remote every time the score swells.

How do I turn them on?

There’s nothing to set up on the server — both are ready to go. During playback, bring up the on-screen controls and select Playback Settings (the gear icon), then Playback Options, and switch on whichever you’d like to use.

Note: enabling either option will cause the audio to be transcoded.

Don’t see Normalize Loudness yet?

Boost Dialog works on anything. Normalize Loudness needs the audio analyzed first, and if that hasn’t happened for an item yet, the option won’t appear for it.

Your server handles this on its own. Two settings control it, both already enabled by default:

  • Settings > Library > Analyze audio tracks for loudness, set to As a Scheduled Task
  • Enable Loudness Analysis in the advanced settings of each movie and TV library

Analysis runs during your server’s scheduled maintenance window, so Normalize Loudness will show up across more of your library over the coming days. If you’d rather not wait, you can analyze items on demand — the contextual menu in Plex Web, or Manage Settings in the mobile apps.

A large library means a lot of analyzing, and you may notice higher CPU usage while your server works through it. If you’d rather it didn’t, set Analyze audio tracks for loudness to Never. And if you want new additions analyzed the moment they land, switch it to As a Scheduled Task and when media is added.

Curious whether a specific track is ready? An analyzed audio stream shows true in Media info and canNormalizeLoudness="1" in the stream info in the XML.

Plex Media Server 1.43.4 or newer, and one of:

  • Plex for Mobile (Android & iOS) from 2025.28.0
  • Plex for Android TV from 2025.28.0
  • Plex for Apple TV from 2025.28.0
  • Plex for Amazon Fire TV from 2025.8.0
  • Plex for Roku from 9.0.31
  • Plex Web (Coming Soon)
  • Plex for Smart TVs (Coming Soon-ish)

About Plex Pass

Loudness analysis runs on servers whose admin has an active Plex Pass. Using Boost Dialog and Normalize Loudness during playback needs a Plex Pass on your own account — or membership in a Plex Home whose admin has one.

Plexamp v4.50.12 Released

Plexamp on Flathub

The Linux Flatpak is now on Flathub’s beta channel, for x86_64 and arm64, currently 4.50.12. The stable Flathub listing is still the old 4.13 Electron build, so it takes the beta remote:

That remote is Flathub’s beta, not ours: it carries the stable releases, so you get 4.50.12 and not a -beta.N build. The download is about 26 MB because WebKitGTK and GTK come from the GNOME runtime instead of being bundled, though Flatpak will fetch that runtime the first time if you don’t already have it. arm64 is new, so a Raspberry Pi or an Asahi machine can run it from Flathub for the first time.

Native Home Assistant integration for the Fellow Stagg EKG+

This isn't a brand new idea. I took the existing protocol work and turned it into a proper native HACS integration that talks to the kettle directly.

Credit where it's due, the BLE reverse engineering is mostly philscott-dev and tlyakhov's work. I built on top of that. What I added is the Home Assistant side and a bunch of connection-handling stuff.

What it does:

  • Set target temp, turn it on/off
  • Current temp while it's heating/holding
  • Hold timer, on-base, and holding sensors
  • Auto-discovers, follows the kettle's F/C setting

A few things I spent time on:

  • No separate server or Pi. It uses HA's built-in Bluetooth, so a local adapter or an ESPHome Bluetooth proxy both work.
  • Two connection modes. On demand (default) only connects when you're using the kettle and frees the adapter otherwise, or persistent if you want it always connected.
  • The kettle doesn't broadcast its state, so it can't tell when you turn it on by hand. There's an optional background poll if you want HA to notice that.

Caveats: it's BLE, so only one thing can be connected at a time. If you're still running an old Homebridge/Pi server, stop it first or HA won't be able to connect. It's a custom integration, so standard "use at your own risk."
