Free Front Row in Memphis 7/7/26

I have a single front row ticket to give away.

I have a health issue that prevents me from going to the show this coming Tuesday.

I ask only one thing:

Pay it forward, in some way, with a simple unexpected act of kindness.

DM me by 630 PM CDT, Sunday July 5th.

New Orleans Roots Musician Alex McMurray at Hernando's Hideaway

He's doing an afternoon show tomorrow at 3 PM.

I'd describe him as a melange of Dylan, Prine, Newman, Waits, Dr. John.

The smart ass sitting on a bar stool who can make the mundane interesting.

He's the guitarist for the Tin Men and Happy Talk. He also played with the Lynn Drury Band.

He's not of Bourbon St or Preservation Hall.

Think Bywater backyard bbqs or Uptown porch parties by way of the 9th Wide.

Here's one of his tunes.

It closes at the Treme series on HBO.

Something I Never Noticed

Are we lucky as eff with our health insurance or do others have similar plans as we do?

This might sound crazy, but I never noticed on my prescription information the retail price until today.

In other words, what the cash price is.

The cash price for 90 days of doses for the four prescriptions that I take would run over $2, 100 a month.

I pay $40 out of pocket.

I feel blessed but this is disturbing. No wonder we have so many issues with healthcare in this country.

Luckily, the carrier was unscathed after attempting buzzard Dodging on Amazon Sunday.

He's a lucky dude.

I Hate Where I'm Living

I've been with USPS since 10/23.

I became a career general clerk at a VMF and I enjoy the job and hate where I am now living.

I started as a PSE in New Orleans and ultimately moved to DE for family considerations, and worked as a CCA.

I'm eligible for reassignment back to Louisiana in January 2027.

I'm sure no one here has a crystal ball yet feel free to explain how the process generally works.

Any tips or any kind of information is appreciated.

To The Street

Why do about 99% of my neighbors not place the can the way the city website says, and the can itself says?

After 120 Days At VMF

I've been a general clerk at a VMF now for 4 months.

Before that I was a CCA and PSE.

Started as PSE.

Then was a CCA.

Wanted to move closer to my hometown and a General Clerk position opened that made sense geographically.

Anybody looking at this position should consider it.

My experience has been that if I stay on task, do my work and don't bother anyone that I got left to continue to do just that.

No awful supervisors, OT available (up to 16 hours a week.)

Regular hours Monday through Friday.

And virtually no stress.

I'm enjoying it very much.

Also its career.

USPS Federal Credit Union

Thinking of joining.

How has your experience been with them?

I'll probably use them to park short-term savings and that's about it because there are no branches in my city.

I Work Hard For My Money

So I would like to find good local small businesses that check off a few boxes.

A) Treat employees fairly & pay at least as well as the average for their particular industry locally.

B) Invest in local youth programs and/or are involved in local entrepreneurship programs.

C) Practices a level of sustainability.

D) Welcomes everyone qualified, or trainable, as employees.

E) Accessible and hospitable for the whole Memphis community.

F) Competitive service/ product.

I would love to see you suggest one or two or even three businesses that check off at least some of those boxes and why you're suggesting them.

Thank you so much in advance!

I moved here from New Orleans in January.

I like to make egg salad and deviled eggs as well.

Getting boiled eggs to peel easily in New Orleans was a feat not always accomplished.

EVERYTIME I make hard boiled eggs here they peel perfectly.

This is a serious post.

I know Memphis is famous for their tap water. I wonder if the mineral content has something to do with it.

New Orleans is infamous for poor water quality, & there seemed to be a boil water alert every week.

Anyone else experience this when they moved here? Any other comments? I'm just curious!
