Career Advice: Retail Banking to Credit Analyst

I recently accepted a part-time CEA position at TD (subject to background clearance). While it's an entry-level retail role, my ultimate career goal is to transition into corporate/commercial banking as a Credit Analyst.

I currently hold the IFIC certification, which will help me within the retail stream, but I want to map out my next steps.

  1. What does a typical progression look like from a CEA to a credit-focused role? (e.g.,
    PBA/Financial Advisor to Commercial?)
  2. What additional skills or certifications should I pick up in the meantime?
  3. How soon is it appropriate to start networking internally?

How long did your TD background check take?

Hey everyone, just went through the TD hiring process and currently waiting on my background check to clear. Curious how long it took for others especially those with international employment or education history. Did it affect your start date? Any tips on how to speed things along? From what I’ve seen so far… BIG needs to up it’s game, they couldn’t verify my Canadian employment despite me giving them my T4, paystubs, employment form and initial offer letter from that company. While that in itself is ridiculous, I don’t know much they are going to struggle to verify my international employment and education.
