Keyword translation of ‘hAschwAlth’ and some very interesting implications. Please do not read if you have not read the manga. I have not broken any rule as this post is 48 hours after the release of ep 43.

This is the form Jugram Haschwalth takes after being entrusted with ‘The Almighty’ by Yhwach, who has fallen asleep, as he releases that power and becomes its vessel.

The power of Yhwach that pours forth from his eyes envelops his body, transforming even his appearance. This immense power affects his mind as well, causing him to display an aggressive attitude and manner of speech utterly unimaginable from his normally calm and composed demeanour.”

And 依代 (yorishiro) is a particularly lovely word here. It means something like a vessel, medium, or object/body through which a supernatural being's power manifests. So the wording isn't merely saying *“Haschwalth gets stronger.”*It is presenting him almost as a living vessel for Yhwach's power.

And look at that last sentence.

Kubo Sensei and the anime staff are essentially saying:

Normally:
calm → composed → restrained Haschwalth

Under The Almighty's influence:
aggressive → battle-hungry → completely transformed demeanour

The accompanying text explicitly says that the overwhelming power changes his mental state and his behaviour.

As for the implication:

Jugram = Yhwach’s other half

In the 1st ep of cour 4, many people were confused about Jugram using The Almighty even though it was morning. It was different in the manga. But the anime official website says ‘Now with the Rei-o’s power, Yhwach retains the Almighty even during sleep.’

Manga:

Yhwach to Ichigo = Will you attack from the right? will you attack from the left? I am anxious to find out.

Ichigo = But you already know that, don’t you?

Yhwach = I am not using my eyes.

Anime:

Yhwach voluntarily transfers the Almighty to Jugram.

My understanding is:

Yhwach cannot contain so much power, so uses Jugram to balance it out.

Manga:

Uryu to Jugram = ‘You seem different’ (Jugram slams Uryu against a wall and threatens him). He appears belligerent.

Anime changes this scene completely.

When Yhwach falls asleep (cour 2), Jugram takes his place and seems as calm as his normal self. When Uryu seems surprised, he explains something (but his voice is muted).

What we essentially see: Ichigo and Uryu are effectively fighting two Yhwachs, Ichigo with the man himself and Uryu with the vessel.

I used to think that Jugram snapped entirely after Bazz B’s death, but that is not the case. He is the vessel.

Yuuichirou Umehara-san, Jugram’s voice actor says Jugram has moments when he will shine and his beliefs never actually change. Meaning, Jugram always remains The Balance, protecting Yhwach from the massive surge of power that flows inside him after absorbing the Rei-o power.

In ep 41, we see Jugram marching with the Soldat. In my opinion, he was evacuating them as was stated in Can’t Fear Your Own World. In the book, he asked his aide but since she is removed as unnecessary in the anime, he himself evacuates the 5 female knights and the remaining soldiers for the Quincy race to continue.

Here’s the other thing: In the opening we see Jugram reaching up, the scales behind him, his hand turning strange with the Almighty, then someone smashes his palm. Meaning Yhwach entrusts then takes back, then Jugram becomes the calm and composed Balance again.

Now, Ichibe Hyousube calls Ichigo a ‘vessel’ or a ‘container’ or a ‘bowl’ trying to make Ichigo undergo the Irazusando test. But Ichigo manages to not break. Ichigo, as a ShinigamI, is a balancer. So is Jugram for the Quincy race. Jugram is basically the Ichigo of the Quincies, protecting the King, while Ichigo is protecting the other king (the war was officially called ‘The Soul King Protection War’).

Whenever I think of this innocent child, it makes me sad that his only role is to be used, by his uncle, by Bazz B (he was Jugram’s best friend, true, but never actually saw him as an equal, just a minion), then by Yhwach, then by the fragile, breaking world.

The future sight disguised as a dream remains the same regardless of who uses the Almighty because Yhwach dismissed it entirely.

Tite Kubo has donated 10 million yen as relief fund for the recent devastating Kumamoto earthquake. He wants to say that this donation is as much as his as his readers, for they paid for the work he created.

In 2024, he donated the same amount as relief for another earthquake. It is to be remembered that he was born in Hiroshima.

This was evacuation. Mentioned in CFYOW.

Because this was IMMEDIATELY after the dream sequence and we know from CFYOW, Jugram knew of his death and wanted the remaining Quincies to live on. Also, the Bambies were no longer in the throne room. Cour 3 ended with them collapsing before Yhwach in the throne room. Jugram evacuated them too. Additionally, the Soldat were not deployed for any battle. Which means, they left. This is why I adore Jugram. I suppose he healed the Bambies too. In the novels, he ordered his aide. But in the anime, Kubo decided that the aide was not necessary to the story. So it was probably Jugram who does the healing and evacuation.

Folks, I'm telling you, if Kubo hadn't been a mangaka, he would have totally been a poet or a lyricist. Here's an excerpt from an interview.

Q: The first thing I’m curious about is how Kubo-sensei developed such a rich vocabulary. Through BLEACH, I came across so many words I’d never known before.

Kubo: I just like reading dictionaries. Back in high school, I read two kanji dictionaries cover to cover.

Here's the thing, guys, kanji dictionaries are NOTORIOUSLY infamous for they soul-sucking pictography. And he memorised 2. Either he has an eidetic memory or he is Ichibe hiding in the world of the living after shaving his beard.

Also, the man coined new words, such as 'Ryoka' which combines the kanji for 'travelling' and 'disaster'. Basically, ryoka means walking disaster.

If that's not poet material, I don't know what is. People don't just 'like' reading dictionaries, folks.

A bit of Byakuya-Ichigo backstory from the new Bleach high-school novel.

Byakuya and Ichigo and Rukia knew each other since they were young. Byakuya was 2 years older than Ichigo. Like in canon, Ichigo often ended up bruised. So his parents sent him to the famous Kuchiki dojo to train. But Byakuya insulted him right away (no surprises there), called him a 'street-brawling nuisance'. Both got into a fight. Although Byakuya was better at swordsmanship, Ichigo knocked him out cold.

Later, Ichigo's family was hurt terribly by shady people and Ichigo, afraid that everyone he associated with would be targeted, cut ties with Byakuya and Rukia. But Byakuya regretted that deeply, thought Ichigo left because of Byakuya's insults. Both brother and sister thought Ichigo couldn't rely on them as they were weak. They also saw Ichigo isolating himself and turning lonely. So, both Byakuya and Rukia worked themselves to the bone to become better at martial arts so that they could protect Ichigo once he put down those walls he set up around himself. To stand beside him as a shield.

Important (and very interesting) lore about the Ise clan (Kubo Q&A session)

Q: The Ise clan is supposed to be a matriarchal line of priestesses who presided over rituals, but what sort of rituals did they actually perform?

Kubo: Since ancient times, they have primarily carried out rituals to appease what is referred to as 'Amatsu-sama'.

However, Kubo does not explain who or what this 'Amatsu-sama' is, but judging from the kanji, it's something like 'heavenly one' or 'he of the heavens'. So it's probably another name for Adnyeus or the Soul King.

So, can we theorise that Shinken Hakkyoken was used to hack off the Soul King's organs? Why else would it bring bad luck to every male who married into the clan? Perhaps it's the will of Adnyeus?
