I’m glad to hear she’s doing better now. I thought her performance in KOTFM was incredible.

In memory of beloved Dolly Parton, Sabrina’s collaborator and friend 🪽

I’m so heartbroken hearing this news, but so happy that she and Sabrina collaborated on Please, Please, Please. Getting to sing with and befriend a legend like Dolly Parton is so special. I will always love that they had this opportunity because my grandmother has followed Dolly Parton’s entire career and she is the reason I love Dolly’s music, so for one of my favourite singers to sing with one of my grandmother’s favourites was such a full circle moment for me. I would love to hear more Sabrina covers of Dolly songs someday. 🪽My heart goes out to all of Dolly’s family and loved ones and friends, including Sabrina.

Update on inviting my professor

The other day I posted here asking how to best invite my white art professor to the blanket ceremony my college is having for us, so here is an update: I did invite my art professor and she is going to attend! Miigwech everyone for your advice and kindness. I am really looking forward to it. She will finally be able to meet my grandparents.

She is such an amazing teacher and person. When I was dealing with the process of having to report racist remarks from another student in my course, she was in my corner all the way, advocating for me. She even personally met with other faculty at the school to discuss it further because she felt the college had dropped the ball with how they chose to handle the situation. I hope everyone has the opportunity to have a teacher who is genuinely really a good person and who cares about all of their students, no matter who they are or where they come from.

How should I invite my professor?

Boozhoo, aaniin. I am graduating soon and my college is having a blanket ceremony for us native students. I want to invite my art professor. She is white but she has been such a huge support to me during my time at school. What do you think is the best way to invite her? Should I just send an email and ask if she wants to come? Miigwech, and congrats to everyone else graduating this year.

Thinking back on it, I realized I started really liking weird girl lit around the age of 8. These are four of my favourite weird girl books from around that time: The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Pip: The story of Olive, Suddenly Supernatural, and Anne of Green Gables.
