mIRC mid 90s - hacking groups

My first introduction to computers / internet was IRC using mIRC client. Spent my time on Efnet. Ended up joining a hacking group called #conflict and spent many hours taking over channels. Hacking colleges and universities only to use for channel bots and bandwidth to take people out and cause netsplits. Eventually our leader was caught for hacking into NASA - I then left IRC and started playing quake 2 digital paintball. Ran a couple of quake clans over the next few years - these are the days I will never forget.

Anyone else remember the clan battles on efnet ?

EQ settings for RS Acoustics Stage 1 center speaker

I originally set up my EQ based on the settings from this VWVortex post:
https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/simple-improvement-for-harman-kardon-sound-system-updated.9540833/page-20#post-116675298

That worked great with the stock Harman Kardon center speaker, but I’ve since upgraded to the RS Acoustics STAGE 1 (COMPETITION) - Hertz. Now the tuning feels different enough that I’m trying to re‑EQ the system by ear.

I know EQ is subjective and everyone has different taste, but the Hertz center is way more sensitive and revealing than the OEM driver. Small changes in the midrange sliders make a much bigger difference now, and I’m trying to avoid over‑boosting or creating a harsh upper‑mid spike.

Curious if anyone else running this same upgrade can share:

  • Your current EQ settings
  • Any adjustments you made after installing the Hertz center
  • Any tips for balancing the center with the HK door speakers

Not looking for “one perfect EQ,” just trying to see what others have landed on with this setup.

*Side note - I will likely add a sub in the future, so I'll EQ it up again. I'm trying to decide between GR8 and GR10 subwoofer - leaning towards GR10 /w no amp.

Thanks!

Hey all,

One month in with my 2026 Golf R and I’m loving it.

I’m looking to add a sub, but nothing over the top—just something that adds solid low-end without rattling everything. I’ve gone through a bunch of threads here and on Vortex, and I’d prefer to stick with a plug-and-play setup (no amp).

For those running any of the below without an amp, I’d appreciate your feedback:

  • RS Acoustics GR8 / GR10
  • ARS Rock-8 / Option-10

Thanks!
