This tube amp is in an a vintage Montgomery Ward stereo console. Wondering if anyone can ID it? Just wanting to see if it would be worth picking up for free to try to tinker with.
I wanted to share my feedback on the Douk T9 6e2 preamp. I’m running it into a Hafler dh500 and I’m very happy with the performance. I had to get the DH 500 due to acquiring larger speakers, and I’ve been hunting for a decent preamp for a few months. I bought a Hafler DH 110 which I don’t like, I also used my Harmon Kardon hk 560 for a bit. I hooked this up today and wow! I paid around $130 .
It has an Aux and Phono input and a mm/mc switch for phono.
While I still have quite a few records to listen to, I can already hear that the bass is mush smoother and it seems to blend better with the mids and highs. Anyone else on here have this? I can’t seem to find many reviews on this model.
I’ve been piecing together a setup for my downstairs listening area, and I think I’m close to finished. I just picked up the Hafler DH 500 today for a great price, I don’t yet have a proper preamp. I had been running the Dq10s with a Yamaha a/v receiver, so I hadn’t yet had a chance to really push the speakers , and I’m pretty happy with the improvement
I’m using my HK 560 as a preamp and running high level inputs into a 10” Velodyne sub.
Would I notice much improvement in sound quality with a proper preamp?
Also, the speakers have been mirror imaged, recapped, and refoamed.
I just picked up a pair of Dahlquist DQ 10's and I'm looking recommendations for a used vintage amp in the $600 range. So far, I've looked at Adcom GFA 555, and they seem to be a good value, though I will still need a preamp. I'm hoping to spend less than $1000 for both. Would also consider an integrated amp.
I really like the Phase linear 700 in terms of aesthetics, but I've read too many articles regarding the "flame linear" reputation. Any recommendations for amps that have similar appearance to the Phase linear 700? I also like the aesthetics of the older Crown amps. I currently have a HK 560 running a pair of ADS l520s, and I love that sound, though I know that the HK 560 isn't enough to run the DQ10. Aesthetics isn't my main concern, so any recommendations are appreciated.
