Grout Quality?

Hi everyone, thanks for the encouragement/advice with getting this student project grouted! I am very new to mosaics. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has any input....while I think the project looks good, the grout feels too dry almost, like sandy/flaky. When I rub a finger on it, some of the grout comes off. It feels like it could break/chip. I followed the general advice of making the grout extra peanut buttery thick and not adding excess water when wiping the grout off, but is it possible that it was too dry? Or is it just the type/quality of grout that I had (pictured as well).

Also, for this project (pictured) it was very easy to wipe the excess grout off, but on a second student's project, it took so much work and unfortunately an extra wet sponge and digging my nails in to expose the tile. She was using "raw" tile, like not polished or painted. Could that have been the problem? Or perhaps we initially spread it on too thick...either way, it was weird to me that the exact same grout mixture wiped off so easily on the pictured project, but was almost impossible on a different project.

I am going to be grouting more similar projects. Do you have any advice or different brand recs? Thanks so much in advance!

grout advice

hello! i am suffering from a bit of imposter syndrome as i am teaching middle school mosaics even though ive never done it myself! Anyways i got a lot of helpful advice from this sub, and went with a project idea of a design on a flat piece of 1 x 1 wood. anyways, now my student wants to grout it, and ive watched a lot of videos on grouting but am a little nervous. for example, isnt the grout just going to kind of spill off of the edges of this? i have grout already that is a light whitish gray that im prepared to mix, and sponges...

My MIL is coming to town and wants to go to a spa together which is super cute. Pearl would be great but has been booked for months obvi. I think Kabuki isnt the vibe, being silent and all….any other spots or spa-adjacent activities (where talking is allowed?)
