Selkirk Ultra Temp wall tee cap Advice Needed

We purchased a home with a wood stove in the basement. Stove pipe exits basement through foundation wall and Selkirk Ultra Temp stainless on the exterior…see photos. The wall tee clean out plug has fallen out and I know this must be reinstalled before use as chimney won’t draft correctly and I’ll pull smoke and carbon monoxide into the basement.

Being installed in this window well is less than ideal as I can barely reach the bottom of the tee. I am going to dig down and remove the gray window wells for better access. I did try to push the tee back in, but based on feel it does not seem like it is seated. It’s in enough to stay in place…but feels like it is only 50% in towards the lip of the plug. Now I Realize I should wire brush the interior, as there could be creosote that dripped down.

The plug is not the quarter turn version it is the 6T-IP plug, appears to have slight taper. How far in should this plug push in? All the way to the lip? Isn’t this plug supposed to have a retainer on it to hold it in place? Instruction manual shows a retainer, but I don’t see any replacement part…just the universal retainer, which is for the different universal wall mount. This property is over an hour away from retail stores….so I would like to purchase what I need to retain this plug before heading up this weekend. I appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Thanks!

Pacific Energy Alderlea T6

I currently have a Harman Oakwood with a broken combustion package. Cheapest I can find a replacement is $650 or so. Since this stove is discontinued and finicky….Would I be better off purchasing a used series A Pacific Energy Alderlea T6? I see one locally for about the same price as the combustion package. Any thoughts? Would also love opinions on what I should offer for the Alderlea T6.

Purchased home with Harman Oakwood Stove need advice

We purchased a home that was built in 2011 (well insulated) and has a Harman Oakwood stove in the finished basement. This is a second home and primary heat is propane fired hot water baseboard heat. House is 1400 square feet, with another 1000 sq feet of living space in the walkout basement, where the wood stove is located. Chimney was cleaned.

This winter we had our first fire and it was fantastic. Second fire was a nightmare, smoke into the room, set off carbon monoxide detector, etc. Did research, see lots of people indicating this stove is finicky. Watch YouTube video and cleaned combustion package from the inside of firebox (I do see some people recommend total removal from rear of stove (haven’t done that yet). Read the combustion package is very fragile and stove is discontinued and replacement ones are $700 to $800.

The reality is we love the fire for aesthetic purposes when we are there…however it is very cold in the winter and we need to be able to heat the house with wood in the event of a power outage or some other emergency. We also rent this property for a couple of weeks a year (rental agreement says no fires…concerned with the smoke/CO incident we experienced).

Looking for advice…on either troubleshooting existing stove…concerned about expense of combustion package as I don’t want to throw good money away or should I keep my eye open for a used wood stove on Facebook marketplace? If so what should I look for?

Thanks!
