He just wouldn't get a date on the calendar!

I recently dated a wonderful guy (44M) i met on Hinge. He literally had every single thing a girl can ask for and then some - divorced over 11years, great career that he is passionate about, active in sports, wonderful manners, great sense of humour, wanting a long term relationship, old school chivalry, would text sweet nothings and everythings all day long etc etc. We live less than 5km apart. Just that I had to pull teeth to get him to put a proper date on the calendar.

The first date out of hinge, I had to ask him to ask me out properly. Then ask him again closer to the date to book a restaurant i liked because he hadn't moved. Then for the second date i suggested the day and then again asking closer to the date ask where he wanted to go, he then booked something last minute (great place that he think completely negates the drag). We made out on the way back in the cab. I point blank told him that he has to plan all the dates henceforth. Two days passed after that with constant chatter on WhatsApp but no next 'date' - so I stopped replying.

He panicked, sent long messages, asked to meet for coffee "even if for just a short time" and I agreed to meeting him the next day. The next day, finalising that coffee date took 25 text exchanges and it was properly excruciating. Other in person or WhatsApp chats were always so warm and nice, even if it was for sure accelerated intimacy after 3 dates.

Next date was set for later that week - same thing again about the restaurant not being booked until I asked a day before and then him throwing defensive deflections at me and eventually apologising and then quickly changing the topic.

I told him that this is a huge problem for me - i had told him many many times over the past dates and messages. He agreed.

Then again 2 days passed after the 4th date with constant WhatsApp communication and no date invite. I stopped responding for good this time.

Its not like i wanted to meet him at restaurants only - a date request for a jog would have been just as good. His low efforts had me thinking that he might be a player trying to slot me into a roster - but surely players want physical proximity. I dont even know what his endgame was. Eternal digital relationship?

Im feeling super bummed to lose such an electric and lovely potential for such a bizzare reason. How can he not manage to lock dates even when asked repeatedly? The hint is right in the word - 'date'!
