Announcing TowaDB - a Falcom repository
Today I am incredibly excited to announce my newest endeavor: TowaDB.
TowaDB (TowaDatabase) is an unofficial repository dedicated to archiving and preserving the history of Nihon Falcom. Born out of what was originally Ys Database (YSDB), TowaDB is an all-encompassing Falcom Database intended to aggregate every single official Falcom material under one umbrella. What this means is art, assets, visual materials, development materials, interviews-- so on and so forth.
The intent is to make it easier for users to navigate to this database, find what they're looking for through targeted filtering or text queries and reference it in a matter of seconds or minutes.
As with YSDB, I am the lead programmer of this project and have designed the full-stack solution: front-end, back-end and AWS database deployment for this web-app.
For those that don't know, I was not only responsible for YSDB but also the translations I would post on Twitter. My translation effort has grown in recent time with my own in-house translation team: AZOTH. Comprised of myself, Jimbus, Arkii and Ammar, these three have made incredible endeavors in mastering the language and providing me support in delivering quality translations as we start to ramp up and take on project, after project. These three will be joining me in not only translating Falcom interviews, light novels, drama CD's and more but also in the archival and aggregation endeavor under the wider umbrella of Towa Database.
I'd like to give them special thanks for taking on the increasing amount of translation work and helping take on the responsibility of maintaining what will be our "home" with TowaDB.
What this means right now: You can navigate to the TowaDB web application and peruse the web-app. To commemorate the launch of the site my team, AZOTH, translated a legacy interview from the Kiseki Series 10th Anniversary Memorial Book: Sept Archive and stores the current Kai no Kiseki (Trails Beyond the Horizon) and Sora no Kiseki (Trails in the Sky) remake interviews. Within the next week, the "Gallery" feature will also go-live with official materials featured across Falcom's various works.
What this means going forward: The intent is to centralize Falcom archival under one umbrella and connect, hopefully, to other fan endeavors to create this digital mesh of resources for transparency and ease-of-access. And, our long-term goal, is to eventually treat TowaDB as a knowledge base so players can learn more about the studio, its history and trace its legacy through to works they are currently or might be interested in.
Thank you for your time.
