Kyoto wine bar BTG selection—what are you ordering?
Wine Bar Verite in Gion, Kyoto. These were the BTG reds on offer tonight, plus the 1995 Sauternes (failed to get the whites on offer). We (2) each ordered a glass of the Takizawa Pinot Noir and then I got the Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey (my first Sauternes) and she got the 2004 Tenimenti Fontanafredda.
I’d offer tasting notes, but I can’t pick out individual notes to save my life. I will say the Sauternes had a medicinal flavor that I didn’t love, and the Barolo had broken down to have herbal notes that didn’t jive with the hefty red I expected (though given its age, I suppose that’s to be expected).
I failed to get his name, but the bartender (or proprietor?) was incredibly friendly, patient, and welcoming. We’ve craved wine since getting to Japan a week ago, and Verite delivered.
For those that will be triggered by it: All served using Coravin’s BTG system.and the Lucente was2008.
