So You've Made A Vibe-Coded Network Tool...

Great. It's pretty cool what we can do with LLMs.

Here's the thing though. By and large, no one is going to use it.

Why?

Because you don't know what you're doing. I mean, that's the point. The LLMs do know. But you don't. Long term support, active development, etc. It's too easy now to spit out a tool and it's even easier to say "meh" and abandon it.

These are the reasons why your vibe coded tool is being downvoted into oblivion.

Most of us are pretty particular about our tools. We want tools we can rely on today and rely on tomorrow. Right now at least, vibe coded tools don't seem like viable tools long-term.

This doesn't mean the tool can't be great for you. But the larger network community is almost certainly going to pass.

Now, if you are a programmer and have experience in the language for your tool and are using AI to extend your knowledge, that's another thing. You can be insanely productive that way. I use it myself to build discrete chunks of code, typically a function at a time, so I still understand the overall structure and architecture of the code. But if my prompt is too broad and it spits out 1,000 lines of Python/Go/whatever then I'm going to refine it so it only spits out 30-50 lines of code at a time that I can follow and understand.

So before you post your project, make sure to disclose if it's vibe coded and if you've got programming experience yourself.

It's Official: The Mission 1/1 Pro Are Not Selling Well

GoPro just announced 2026 Q2 results and they're not good. Only 291,000 overall camera units sold (there's no breakdown between Max 2/Lit/Hero13/Mission 1s), but it's 38% less than last year when they didn't even have a flagship.

Even worse, they made $76 million on all hardware, through 291,000 camera units sold means the average sale price was $261 per camera unit.

These sales numbers for a flagship launch are bad.

I can't see how these numbers are not enough to save the company.

I don't know where GoPro goes after this other than a fire sale. Nick Woodman has driven this company into the ground. Even if he resigned at this point and handed control over to someone actually competent, it's probably not enough to save the company. It's gonna be sold I think. And cheap.

Edit: Removed double negative

Relative Time from Space Seed to Wrath of Khan

Just an observation on the passage of time: From TOS: Space Seed to The Wrath of Khan was about 15 years canonically. It seems like such a time jump from the age of the actors and just the production values, story telling, etc.

But if the Reliant was rolling up to Ceti Alpha V (thinking it was Ceti Alpha VI) today, the Enterprise would have dropped Khan off in 2011.

No real point to this post other than to note that 1967 to 1982 seems like a much bigger jump than 2011 to 2026, despite being the same period of time.

(Note: The real time difference between 2267 Space Seed and 2285 TWoK is 18 years, so that's a bit inconsistent, but still).

AI vaporware, AI slop, AI Slide Decks... AI Enterprise Software?

For about 20 years now companies have been trying to crack the whole "fully automated diagnostics, log parsing, correlation, auto-remediation" thing.

The buzzword now of course is AI. Before that it was machine learning.

Time after time companies have tried putting these technologies to do something operational and time after time it fizzled out. I remember Cisco Network Assurance Engine, it was supposed to do all that through machine learning. It was a spectacular dud.

Has anyone here found any products that do what it says on the tin?

You Should Think About Your GoPro Cloud Storage

I've been hard on GoPro (and I think rightfully so), but I'm really not trying to be a jerk here.

I think if you have videos stored on GoPro Cloud, I would recommending coming up with a plan for the possibility that it won't be there soon and to make a local backup of the videos you want to keep.

Monday GoPro filed an addendum to their 2026Q1 earnings that included a statement from their auditors that there is a real concern about whether or not GoPro can stay a going concern.

"Without obtaining additional sources of financing or consummating a strategic transaction the Company’s ability to continue as a going concern would be materially and adversely impacted, and the Company may be required to significantly reduce, restructure, cease operations, or seek protection under the Federal bankruptcy laws although no specific plans to file for bankruptcy protection have been initiated or considered."

I'm not trying to stoke fear or FUD, as there's always the possibility that GoPro makes it through this mess one way or another. But make no mistake, GoPro is in bad shape financially. It's a very real possibility that GoPro does a Spirit Airlines and ceases operations one morning with no warning. I wouldn't say that's likely, as there's any number of possible scenarios where GoPro continues to operate in one way or another. But there are a few scenarios where you might suddenly lose access to your files.

Your plan could be to do nothing of course, having all the footage locally. Your plan could be that the footage doesn't matter and it's not worth the effort to download it all, or only a few of them. Or you might need to come up with a way to download all your clips, which because the way they made the product, will be very difficult if you have a lot of videos. I'm not a fan of how difficult they make it to download files, as opposed to OneDrive, Box, and Dropbox, which make it much easier.

Even if GoPro was healthy (and they are very much not) I always advise people to have their valued photos and video in more than one location, especially if the only place it currently resides is a cloud platform. Cloud platforms change their TOS, you might not pay your bill because you got a new debit/credit card and the warnings of non-payment went to spam and suddenly your account is deleted, etc. Or someone can make a mistake and delete the entire GoPro tenant off of AWS, like what happened to a pension fund UniSuper with Google Compute.
