2 person home: we can't ever need WiFi 6 / 6e, right?
I have a Deco M5 and E5 at home in a two-person home with an internet speed of 100Mbps that has never felt limited. Total devices are about 15 at the most:
- 2 laptops, 2 phones, 2 smart watches: 6
- Apple TV, iPad: 2
- Sonos Speakers: 3
- IoT devices like 2 purifiers, air sensors etc: 4
- Total: 15
Our peak usage would probably be simultaneous 4K streaming on the Apple TV and YouTube on a laptop simultaneously. That's it.
Was getting my dad new routers (in a home that's even less device-dense than mine) and I began wondering if I should get WiFi 6 for myself and give him my routers.
But I can't possibly need Wifi 6 with my setup right? Sounds like my peak load is 5 devices (laptop, TV, sonos speakers, phone) consuming well under 100Mbps at any point? Even total device count doesn't seem to be at levels where WiFi 6 may be needed? I notice minor performance issues at times - like perhaps some latency / response time issues but I'm guessing that's more to do with my ISP device being the router and my Decos being in Access Point mode, than with their WiFi 5 capabilities, right?
What am I missing?
