Did they, uh, intend for this to be so creepy?

Totally forgot this was a thing from the original games, so whoops for being in a corner spot. Don’t think this caused the music to die a creepy death in the originals though.

I was on a chain of 40 too, so… whoops again!

They can break out of Crit Catches?? I had looked away for a sec after I saw the Crit Catch activate, only to hear it breaking out. I thought I might have seen it wrong, but the screen capture showed otherwise.

Gotta love this game. 😅

About a week and a half ago, I posted a video of catching the final three shiny Legendaries I needed to complete the whole shiny Legendary set in SP (sans Cresselia and Mesprit, but I showed the clips of catching those two in Alpha Sapphire); however, I totally forgot that I still had Pokémon present in this game I had yet to obtain in any other game…

Thus began the bonus chapter of my shiny-hunting excursion in this game: PokéRadar chaining! This is the first time I’ve ever used this method (successfully, I tried in Diamond and Platinum to no avail) and yeah, here are the results so far!

-Nidoran(M): Got to a 39-chain, then got three shinies on catches 39, 40, and 41. Probably took about 4 hours total.

-Wobbuffet: Caught one at a 36 chain, then lost the chain. Decided to get a second one for my son on a second chain around 25-30. Probably about 4-5 hours total.

-Nidoran(F): This is one I heard about the “try it at 17-chain” instead since I didn’t even realize a 40-chain was only about a 5% chance. 😅 Only got one shiny at 19 before the chain broke. Haven’t been able to get a decent chain going since (and a 2% encounter rate makes it tougher). I’ve spent about 7-8 hours total so far getting the first shiny and trying to get two others to get the full evo line.

-Nincada: Yeah… so this is where the game went bananas. After about four days of no success, going back and forth between hunting during 17-chains and trying to go higher and ending at 25-30 chains, I got my first shiny at a 34-chain.

Then, the chain refused to break. I tried to break it at 35 with the 53% chance, but then I just decided to keep hunting the shinies at 36. The chain did not break until 52. I don’t know why I did this, but 36-52 were all shinies. I now have 17 shiny Nincada. 😵‍💫

I evolved two of them to have a Ninjask (and Shedinja) for myself and my son (gotta keep the 40-chain one for myself, of course), but I think I’ll look into giving the rest away. In total, I spent about 12 hours on getting the Nincada, but definitely got way too many and will just break the chains on purpose from here on out.

Anorith: Okay, so this one wasn’t a PokéRadar one, but I realized I needed a shiny Armaldo. It was nice to throw in another 1/4,096 hunt so I went for it and got the shiny in about 15 hours.

So yeah, the adventure continues for now! Gotta get me one more shiny fossil (Kabuto to evolve into Kabutops) to complete my shiny fossil collection, but other than that, I’ll be going for a few more PokéRadar shinies. This method has been… interesting, to say the least. The 7% chance of the chain breaking is deceiving as hell and will occur *way* more than you think, but it’s provided a different thrill than other methods I’ve done in other games. This game is so good for shiny hunters such as myself.
