UPDATE on PN579X stylus

Hey everyone! Quick but super important follow-up to my previous post.

The Dell Premium Active Pen (PN579X) finally arrived, and while this specific pen is a total flop, the overall project is definitely not over.

Here is the breakdown of what happened with the Dell pen:

The Protocol Problem: It turns out the specs were misleading. This Dell stylus does NOT support 2.0 protocols—it only supports 1.0.

(and yes, i'm confirmed that it is not in MPP mode)

🛑 Verdict on Dell: Avoid the Dell PN579X if you're trying to make this setup work. It's a waste of cash for our device.

But the experiment continues...

UPDATE: Scammed by Ozon/Pinduoduo seller. Avoid Lenovo AP501U for MaxMiPad!

Hey everyone! Quick but super important update to my previous post about using third-party WGP/AES styluses on Xiaomi Pad 6 via the MaxMiPad (LSPosed) module.

I fell into a classic trap so you don't have to.

Long story short: I got scammed by a Chinese seller, and if you are looking for an alternative stylus, AVOID the Lenovo AP501U at all costs.

Being a bit of a reseller/tech tinkerer myself, I managed to open the box extremely carefully without damaging the factory seal sticker (just in case I needed to fake-proof my refund).

Here is what happened when I tested it on my Xiaomi Pad 6:

The hardware conflict: The AP501U uses a proprietary protocol called Lenovo Pen Protocol 2.0 (LPP 2.0). It does NOT have hardware support for universal WGP or Wacom AES grids.

The Hilarious Part: When you turn it on, the Xiaomi Pad 6 recognizes it via Bluetooth... AS A GAMEPAD (HID Device).
Screen response: Absolute zero. The screen is physically blind to the nib. The MaxMiPad mod is completely useless here because the stylus hardware physically cannot emit the WGP/AES frequency wave. You can only use the side button to click things like a remote control, but you can't draw a single line.

But the quest is NOT over!
One of you guys mentioned in the comments of my last post that a stylus from a Dell laptop worked perfectly out of the box. I did some heavy digging. Turns out, the Dell Premium Active Pen (PN579X) is a multi-protocol beast that actually packs hardware Wacom AES 1.0, AES 2.0, and true WGP chips.

I just pulled the trigger and ordered a mint-condition Dell PN579X from a local listing for a dirt-cheap price (~$15). It should arrive in a few days.

Third-party stylus on Xiaomi Pad 6 via MaxMiPad — what actually works?

So i'm trying to find more available alternative, Lenovo Precision Pen 2 has delivery that takes forever so i started digging.

Found some posts in chinese community and also some xda threads — and the only best working result i have found is Lenovo Xiaoxin (Lingdong stylus) [ZG38C04468] which must be almost (if not) the same as Lenovo Precision Pen 2. Works through MaxMiPad (LSPosed) that unlocks restrictions on mi pad 6, gives more unlocked functionality — mostly miui stuff but also helps with stylus protocols.

Also one thing i was worried about — palm rejection. It's not mentioned directly in chinese posts but from what i understand when MaxMiPad makes tablet properly recognize active stylus on system level, palm rejection kicks in automatically since screen starts understanding where pen signal and where hand touching. And nobody in those threads complained about it which is a good sign, because it is gonna be a great replacement for official stylus. And nobody on those forums complained about it which is a great sign, because it is gonna be a great replacement for official stylus.

If anyone have similar experience i'm very thankful for any help. Mostly curious:

  1. Does it work on Pad 6 specifically ?
  2. Any other WGP pens that worked for you?
  3. Palm rejection — does it actually work for you in practice?
  4. Which ROM are you running (does it work on custom)?
