Seeking help

Hey guys, I got hired onto a job as an apprentice in the material producers program. I’ve been here for a few weeks. I work in a mine, and to be on surface goes by seniority, so I’m nowhere near in line. The job has been causing a lot of anxiety. I’m not sure how long I can continue being underground my whole shift. I’m still on my probationary period. Is there absolutely anything I can do? I don’t want to lose this opportunity.

I’m afraid of reaching out to any BA, as they were the ones who told me this was my way of getting into the union.

Local 150 apprentice

Hey guys, I’m a local 150 apprentice with my M card as I work in a quarry as a materials producer. Our apprenticeship is approximately 2 years. Once we journey out, we get our C card which I was told is non upgradeable & our pay cap is good, but lower than those in construction (heavy highway, etc.) my question is, is it possible to obtain our A card and switch to construction after we journey out? Even though our C card would be “non upgradeable”?

Thanks for any info.

Apprenticeship

Hey guys, I just got my M card from my local and I’m about to start my apprenticeship as a material producer in a quarry. The days & hours came as a bit of a surprise (Mon-Sat 5pm-3am) but I understand I just have to tough it out as an apprentice for now.

I was a bit confused with how the cards work. From what I know, after approximately two years of working & classes, I’ll receive a non upgradeable C card. Does that mean I won’t be able to ever get an A card since it’s non upgradeable? This was a great opportunity to get my foot in the door as my local is tough to get into, but the end goal would be to get into the construction side and get my A card.

I did initially apply for the 4 year construction program, but after speaking to one of the union reps he mentioned the building materials program would be a lot easier to join, as there were just so many applications for the construction program.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
