I’m Still not Senior Level After 9 Years

gonna be a cry baby here for a minute.

Ive been a DE for over 9 years and im stuck at mid level. Last job search was horrible I applied to hundreds of places and got a bunch of rejections.

One place that rejected came back and offered me mid level saying they liked me just didn’t think im Senior level yet but they could get me there.

Now I’ve been at this company a few months and the direction to get to senior is so vague. They tell me to find a problem in the company and solve. And the other is to have more opinions.

Now I have been trying to have more opinions but they are always shot down immediately. for example we’ve been having problems with specific cloud vendors so I try and suggest open source alternatives and self host cause I have experience there. immediately shot down. or maybe I suggest using a feature in our software were not utilizing. shot down again.

Honestly I’m getting tired of this field. I feel like maybe im just not even cut out for DE. in my head I thought I was good and smart, but my real world experience tells me otherwise. Should I switch to something else?

Jade Wallet vs Tangem

I’m in the process of moving my bitcoin to a cold wallet. I already bought the Jade and went through the process of making my wallet

However this process is giving me a little anxiety. it seems extremely easy for me mess things up and lose my funds. I wrote the seed down but I also wanted to setup a passphrase for the extra security in case of theft. But all these points of failure are what make me hesitant. And I’m saying this as a technically savvy person with a comp sci background

Im considering buying tangem since it seems way easier for me to store my funds not lock me out. I don’t like that it’s not open source (at least the firmware isn’t) and not bitcoin only, but the company itself seems secure.

Should I switch to Tangem or keep my Jade Plus?

Is Anyone Using Terminal Threads?

I really like the idea of just using tui agents for seamlessly in zed rather than the zed agents. the only thing is the workflow isn’t quite there. like the terminal threds don’t keep history but they stay in the thread manager which is really confusing.

I recently came across herdr https://herdr.dev/ and I love the workflow. I feel like the zed agent panel and terminal threads are really close but not quite there. anyway I can get it closer to this workflow or is there future plans to make it better?

Until then I may stick with herdr.

Feeling Way Out of Depth Trying to Become Senior

I’m a mid level DE with 9 years experience. I work heavily with python and sql and modern tooling like airflow and dbt.

like 6 months ago I was grinding hard to get Senior DE role but was getting rejected left and right. I think the market was just bad as well. I had a company that turned me down reach back out and offer me a mid level role with the path to become Senior. I accepted cause I was desperate and the pay was good.

Im 2 months into this role and im way out of depth. The company focuses a lot more on documentation and planning than technical skills. I’m stuck on these ambiguous problems that I have no idea how to solve and overall just confuse me.

When I tell my boss this he just tells me to write more documentation to think it through. I’m honestly so sick of writing docs. I’m a technical guy I just want to code. The company keeps dangling the senior promotion in front of me though so I’m trying to do what they ask.

im starting to think I’m just not senior level. I don’t really care about this stuff I just want to build data pipelines. Is there maybe another career out there for me? I just feel inadequate all my peers have leap frogged me and are senior or above. I feel embarrassed to be in my 30s stuck at mid level.
