Welcome to r/BambooShrimp 🦐

Hey everyone! I'm u/shrimpshedmi, the creator of r/BambooShrimp. I felt like it would be helpful to have a bamboo shrimp specific subreddit for any general questions as well as breeding projects and tank photos, feel free to post anything bamboo shrimp related! Also feel free to post about any other filter feeding shrimp you may have, such as vampire shrimp, green lace shrimp, pink boxer shrimp etc.

Have fun everybody, I hope you enjoy!

All the eggnant amanos I'm about to spawn

This isn't even all of the pregnant ones, I left a few in the tank lol. Just wanted to show how much they breed in the summer months. Every couple days I find a new molt and a new berried female.

I've been waiting on some of these eggs to hatch for a month and I'm getting impatient since my phytoplankton is ready, so I'm going to try forcing a spawn in a pitcher because it has worked for me in the past. Most of them just got to breeding age though, so I do expect some unhatched eggs to be kicked early.

Questions for amano breeding attempt 3

My 2nd attempt just failed due to water quality issues and potentially excess bacteria so I sterilized this tank and it is re-cycling now. I know there's only a few people doing this on here but I am wondering how important cycling is for a larval grow out tank? How long should it cycle, and do I have to ghost feed? I don't want to use powdered food in my tank again as it killed all my larvae last time.

Also wondering if this is enough air to sustain live phyto? 10 gallon tank filled to 8 gallons. I want to keep the air somewhat low so the larvae can still swim around. I'm planning to have a separate phyto culture to dose into the grow out daily, rather than culturing in the tank, but I still want to make sure it doesn't crash.

Last question is should I keep it in a dark room with the tank light only, or is indirect sunlight okay for the grow out and phyto?

These are my only questions right now I have pretty much everything else decided and set up already but I'm open to any other suggestions

Cherries love to stand on my bamboo shrimp for some reason

The bamboo in the back is a juvenile or dwarf that's why the cherry looks so big

12 hour old amano larvae I'm attempting to grow out

This is my second ever attempt at raising amano larvae, I have a new feeding method and salinity level I'm experimenting with, which I found in some recent research (all on my profile). Will update if they survive. They were transferred to saltwater after I took this video.

Marine ciliate culture for my larvae

This has got to be the most cost effective method to feed amano larvae. They just show up when you ghost feed. All I've been doing is lightly tapping an eyeshadow brush of powdered food on top of the tank about twice a day, the air stone distributes it to the ciliates, which then reproduce like crazy. I feed them golden pearls 5-50 microns and rice bran powder and it works great. This is my first attempt with this method, I will update as soon as the larvae are introduced

(Disclaimer, powdered food requires more water changes)
