Everyone under the sun says "it's free after you buy the hardware" and skips the electricity bill.
Ran the numbers against a mid tier subscription to see where the crossover actually sits. Every thread about self hosting eventually has someone say some version of "once you own the hardware it's free forever," and every time I read that I think about my power bill. Electricity is not zero, and once you're running a card that pulls real wattage under sustained inference load for hours a day, that number adds up faster than I want to admit.
So I actually sat down and modeled it. Rough inputs: call it $20,000 for a serious rig, dual high end setup, enough RAM and VRAM to run something respectable at usable speed, and roughly $200 a month in incremental electricity from running it under load regularly. Compare that against a flat $200 a month subscription to a hosted option with no upfront cost at all.
The crossover point where the local rig actually becomes the cheaper option lands around month 27, over two years in. Before that point you are strictly worse off financially by every measure, you've just already spent the money so it doesn't feel that way anymore, which I think is exactly the trap. Sunk cost makes the ongoing electricity feel free even though it isn't, and it makes people report their setup as "free" once the hardware is paid off, ignoring that the hardware itself was the majority of the real cost (not to mention the RAM Apocalypse going on shooting prices up)
None of this accounts for depreciation, resale value dropping as newer cards release, the opportunity cost of that $20k sitting in chips instead of the stock market or the time cost of actually maintaining and troubleshooting a home server instead of just having something that works. Once you consider those , the real breakeven point pushes out even further than month 27. I still think there's a case for going local if privacy or offline access matters more to you than raw cost
also subscription puts u at the mercy of the provider so that too ig
(numbers are from personal observatitons can be different depending on setup and city)
(Used grammarly for grammar)
Been running a B70 for local inference and the dense_vs_MoE gap on the same card was bigger than I expected going in.
Qwen3.6-27B (dense, Q4_K_M): ~27.8 tok/s prompt processing, ~24.4 tok/s generation, using ~30GB VRAM.
Qwen3.6-35B-A3B (MoE, same card+backend): ~95.8 tok/s prompt processing, ~98.3 tok/s generation despite being a bigger model on paper.
Vulkan backend has been the more stable/faster path for me(KEYWORD ME WHAT WORKS FOR ME WONT WORK FOR U 100% OF THE TIME) vs SYCL (SYCL came in ~40% slower in my testing, on both Windows and Linux). Temps run a bit hotter than a comparable RTX card, but 32GB for the price is a reasonable trade if you're VRAM constrained and mostly running MoE models.
Came across a project framing architecture search around thermodynamic information cost (Landauer's principle) rather than the usual FLOPs/params tradeoff, the pitch is causal derivation before implementation, an optimization step they call CAMOS, then mapping the result to actual hardware.
The interesting claim (unverified OFC, no benchmarks published yet as far as I can find) is that unnecessary information destruction inside a network might be an upstream contributor to alignment failure, and that preserving more physical information through the computation could be a useful constraint alongside the usual interpretability/value learning approaches.
No performance numbers to point to yet, just the conceptual pipeline, so treat this as "interesting idea worth watching" rather than "here's proof it works." Repo's here if anyone wants to dig into the actual math: github.com/boonzy00/thermo-nn
Yea so this is from 2025
So what actually happened? Whats new?
We build automation tools for small marketing teams. Nobody has ever walked in(not that anyone has ever directly approached us) and said I want an agent
They say why does this take so long? Why am I doing this manually every week? Can someone just handle this? Can you help the org cut cost?
The highest value thing we've built is basically a glorified checklist runner. Not autonomous, not reasoning around anything, just doing one annoying 3 hour job really fast.
The reframe that helped us, autonomy is a cost when money is on the line and honestly not needed for most companies.
So we keep humans approving the decisions and let the automation do the research and drafting around them it also gives the manager a nice ego boost.
Clients don't experience that as lesser AI. They experience it as shit that works just fine
Recently started trading XAUUSD with 40$ Capital after demo trading for 3 weeks
Primary strategy was Supertrend and trend lines
I lost on few trades, recovered them and came back strong and because of few strong candles, I lost it all. I was to manually close the trades but it came profitable and then dropped suddenly.
Anyways, I have 2.5$ in my account. Can any instrument and strategy might help recovering my money?
I suppose I’ll demo trade for few days

Want to preserve something perishable as soon as possible. Mostly near Bopal.
Would appreciate if anyone can hook me up with any contact.
Recently visited this food cart, ordered Masala Khichiya Papad. The owner seemed like a genuine literate mannered person.
After giving order the person with me whispered to me to ask them whether they have cheese available or not. I asked him for the cheese one and he said “Surat na loko ne cheese vagar nai chaale [Chuckles]”
I cleared to him that the person who demanded is not from Surat but nearby, so he said Gujarati ko chahiye hi cheese.
He said they do have cheese but don’t openly show it has it may adversely effect on body. “You have family and they need you, why do something which may harm your body. I don’t have family so I know the importance of them”
We changed our order back to regular one. And he said to his helper “10/- kam kamayenge wo chalega”
Being a street food vendor; them being well educated, mannered and moreover conscious about health of others while reducing their revenue seemed wholesome to me.
Maybe as Surti/Gujarati we can make the paradigm shift towards a healthy diet.
Looking to buy fantasy/less hyped mainlines lot at 50-75 each

Had Jhalmuri near SD Jain school.
It had Mamra, vatana, dal, kanda tameta kothmir, some pickle masala, RAW SARSO NU TEL. As a Gujarati; didn’t like it.
Was so out of the taste; had to pack it so atleast can give it to the Bangla construction workers.
Never consuming it again.
