VFT looks sickly

VFT looks sickly

I have two Venus fly traps that I rescued from Sprouts a few years ago. They were pretty healthy for a year+ and then we moved. I repotted the larger one a week ago because it was in the tiniest pot. The plant is covered with tiny white bugs, even inside the traps. These are likely spider mites. My alocasia plant was infested and these were close by. I gently brushed off the white bugs with a paint brush and watered it well. It's become yellower and the traps look lackluster. The trap that looks black (on the left side) caught a large fly and has been dying off. I pulled off any dead leaves and really infested parts. What is happening here? I've been caring for these for a while but I'm not an expert.

update: planted in carnivorous plant mix and crushed peat, it is under my lanai in bright light. It's Florida so it's pretty hot even in the shade, humidity varies but right now it's pretty humid. I water with distilled water every day. Keep it sitting in a saucer of water. The pot is clear plastic so I can see how the soil is drying out. The traps were red when I bought it but have never been red since I took it home.

Laid back restaurants?

Will be in town with 4 adults and 2 kids under 6. Can anyone recommend a few restaurants? Laid back vibe, local seafood, hole in the wall locals favorites? Want to avoid chains. Someplace on a waterfront, fresh fish, local dishes. Prefer Brunswick area. Will be in Jekyll later in the week so we've got that covered.Any recs?

USPS lost my passport. Whomp whomp.

Well, the handy dandy USPS lost my passport somehow. It got all the way to my city (USA) and then disappeared. I'm heartbroken.

Can anyone tell me what the shipping envelope looks like? Anyone have a photo?

I'm going to have to make another plea for them to locate the package and I'll need to know how to describe the mailing envelope.

Passport has shipped to US - delivery question

My passport was shipped from Dublin to my US address on June 11. On June 12 it was scanned in Jamaica, Queens, NY with the status of "Processed Through USPS Facility" but there has been no movement in 4 days.

Anyone have any first hand experience with this? Does it have to clear customs? Will I get tracking when it leaves NY?

Just wondering what to expect.

update 6/20/26: I waited until yesterday and filed a missing mail claim through the USPS. might have been a little heavy handed but we've had mail misdelivered often after moving to a new address and I'm wary of this happening.

I received a status update 6/19 saying that it's at the local distribution center. Should be delivered soon.

Are my Cannas dying?

I planted two small cannas on my west facing side yard. This area gets blazing full sun most of the day. In the afternoon it is baking hot. Everything I read said that cannas do well in this heat. One is doing better than the others and one is very small and is forming brown spots on the leaves.

(I know the area looks unfinished and the cannas are planted right into the sod. I have to cut a mulch bed in but haven't had time.)

Is this from too much sun?

edit: autocorrect, my nemesis.

New construction - shower caulk cracking 😡

Need advice, please!

We're in a new construction home. The master bath shower is sealed with a sanded siliconized caulk, AccuColor brand, that matches the grout and feels like grout. (Photo attached). The shower pan is acrylic and moves a little when you step on it. The builder sent a repair guy to regrout but the hairline crack is back a few months after the repair.

Is there a better option to caulk this with? I don't want to get water behind the tile.

Advice please.

Reaction change to progesterone?

I've been taking 200 mg of prog since last year, 100 mg before my dosage was increased. On patch and progesterone pill for 3+ years. I take the prog at bedtime, usually around 830 pm. It hits me in about 30-45 minutes and I start to nod off. Lately I've noticed that I wake up (around 430-500 am) feeling drunk. Super tired, woozy, head feels like it's in the clouds. It's not every morning but several times a week that I still feel groggy and affected by it. Not sure what changed.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Best mulch?

I put pine bark mulch in my front bed and there are dozens (probably thousands) of ants living in it or around it. We saw fire ants on the lot when the house was being built (it's less than a year old) so ants were already here. There are so many flying ants around the lights and on our cars.

The builder used dark brown shredded mulch, not sure of the type, but it looked tired a month after we moved in. I switched it out to pine bark when I ripped out the landscaping.

Did I do a bad thing? Which mulch would be best?

update: I guess I have an ant problem, not a mulch problem. lol.

Unable to contact passport office from Web chat

I've been trying to get the web chat to load and it never shows up for me. I've tried on mobile and on tablet and it never appears. I have all the cookies accepted. My cell plan doesn't allow for international calling.

What am I doing wrong?

Are there any other options for reaching the office?

Update 6/2/26: I was able to reach WebChat at around 8:30 am EST. I tried many, many times and kept receiving a message "all agents are busy..." It took an hour of typing help or agent into the chat until I finally reached the queue and then 25 minutes of waiting in the queue. It was painless once I got into the queue but initially I wasn't sure if I was doing it correctly.

The agent was very helpful and after taking my info told me that they have a backlog of applications and it's taking longer than usual. She said they'd email if they have any issues.

Hoping this may help someone else!

edit update 6/3/26: I also reached out to the consulate in the US and received an email back. there is a us based WebChat that can be used in lieu of the one in Ireland, if time zones are an issue.

Full sun plants

I'm in zone 10a and am having trouble with alot of the plants in my front yard. Nothing is thriving. Home is new construction so soil isn't great yet. Front yard faces south and is scorching hot all day.

I have foxtail ferns and flax Lily in the largest front garden bed. The foxtails are doing the best but only one flax Lily is full and green. I had to rip out all my pentas because the stems and leaves turned purple/red. They sprang back to life once I moved them under my shaded lanai. The only thing doing moderately well is my marigolds.

A Cavendish banana and papaya also withered in pots out front. They're fine under the lanai. Even my cactuses hate the front yard.

I have so much sod. I need to plant something. Anything native or non-native that will tolerate blazing sun all day?

New here 👋.

Looking for recommendations for a simple mineral sunscreen to use on my ear.

Had Mohs surgery on my ear a few months ago because of basal cell carcinoma and now I developed contact dermatitis because of my sunscreen. My ear is swollen and red and itchy. It feels like a water logged shiitake mushroom! 😢

I was using Elta Md but switched to Freaks of Nature 50+ because it was thicker and covered like a barrier rather than a thin lotion. Something in that stuff caused the reaction and my derm is recommending mineral only sunblock.

I need something with zinc oxide but not allot of ingredients. Anyone have any real world experience with covering post cancer skin?

(Lurker/New here 👋) I've had some money in Synchrony's HYSA for a few years. I'm generally happy with the rate compared to the big goose egg I was earning with USAA.

The app and website/login is buggy and lately it's impossible to login with the app at all. It won't recognize my phone number and I have to call customer service every time to get in to my account. Today I tried to access the website and it's giving my the same trouble. Honestly, I'm over this crap and I just want my money back.

Anyone else have this experience? Recs for alternatives - Marcus or Ally?

I can't deal with having my money held hostage.
