Am I doing enough for sun protection or missing something?

Hello everyone, I just started taking care of my skin properly and I don't know if I’m doing things the way I should do them, for sun protection, I do use SPF 50 sunscreen on my face every morning before going out. I reapply sometimes, but not always, especially if I’m busy or forget. I don’t really use hats or anything like that unless it’s very hot.

My concern is this… is sunscreen alone actually enough for daily use? Or do people here combine it with other things all the time?

I read some older posts and people talk about UVA still coming even when it’s cloudy, and now I’m a bit confused. Also I stay indoors a lot, but near windows, so I don’t know if that matters too.

Another small thing, I once checked some cheaper sunscreen options online (I think it was Alibaba). Some looked okay price-wise, but I got worried about quality, so I didn’t buy anything there.

Also, how often do you really reapply in real life? Like not the perfect routine, but what you actually do.

Sorry again if this sounds basic. I just want to understand properly so I don’t regret later.

Thank you so much to anyone who replies 🙏

Hand cream with SPF recs?

Does anyone have any recommendations for hand cream with SPF? I do a lot of handwashing due to my job and my hands are constantly dry/cracking, so I’m hoping to find a hand cream with added sun protection. I appreciate any help :)

Sunscreen recs for the most sensitive skin LIKE VERY

I really need a good solid sunscreen. My skin is so unbelievably sensitive (I’m on Accutane) and in general it always has been. The only sunscreen I’ve truly liked is the La Roche posay tinted mineral one but the color is just too off for day to day like too dark and so I bought the fluid one same exact sunscreen but the chemical version I believe and it’s white but blends in clear and immediately I felt a slight burning nothing too crazy but the next day I got a bunch of irritation bumps on my forehead and around my mouth. I really need some good recs

Looking for an SPF spray that works well over makeup.

I’m trying to find a good SPF spray that works well over makeup. I see a lot of face SPFs that are either a cream or stick but I want to be able to apply it throughout the day without ruining my makeup. It’d be a plus if it’s extra hydrating for the skin!

ISO: River safe sunscreen

I'm in North Carolina if it matters

I went swimming with a friend today, I used the basic cheap, Walmart sunscreen, claims it's waterproof but I looked like an oil spill upon entering.

I'm not opposed to spending good money to save the environment, I genuinely was not a fan of how much went into the water, I mean the minnows didn't even wanna come near my feet and I love feeling them nibbling my feet 😭

Is Hiya kids sunscreen as good as their vitamins?

I saw this sunscreen at my best friend’s house yesterday and she was raving about it for her kids. Every summer feels like a struggle trying to find one my kids will actually tolerate, one burns their eyes, another leaves a white cast and another irritates them because of the smell. We already used Hiya vitamins and loved them but I’m curious if anyone here has tried their sunscreen for kids and what your experience has been?

Is this a good sunscreen?

Aside from whether or not it works well, I am wondering if it is a healthier option. I’m not in a position to break the bank for a sunscreen. I found this and noticed the only active ingredient is zinc oxide 21.6%.

Seeking my holy grail sunscreen

Help!

I am currently wincing and half blind as I type this after today's attempt at the Neutrogena face dry touch sunscreen. 😭😭😭😭

I spend a lot of time outdoors and I'm looking for a sunscreen I can wear that won't make my eyes sting like crazy. I've tried most of the face sunscreens from the drugstore (Neutrogena, banana boat, tropical Hawaiian, aveeno, etc) but I don't want to shell out for anything fancy if I'm not at least 80% sure it won't be an issue.

I do not care about makeup but I prefer to avoid a white cast. I don't have sensitive skin, and if I'm not wearing sunscreen my eyes don't sting due to sweat alone.

Please y'all. I'm desperate.

Mineral BODY sunscreen recommendations?

So I’m allergic to chemical sunscreen AND fragrance which makes looking for sunscreen a nightmare. All of the body sunscreens I’ve tried literally make me look like a sick Victorian child and I feel like I have to scrub a layer of skin off in the shower to get it off!! Like I’m trying to look like a bronzed goddess while still protecting my skin and so far I’m looking more like I walked into a white painted wall.
All of my face sunscreens are great, I just need one for the body!!

Sunscreen staining test

All the sunscreens I've tested.

Following my last post, I've decided to go ahead with my little experiment and text a bunch of sunscreens in terms of how much they would stain a white 100% cotton tshirt 😅.

These are the sunscreens I've put up to the test. I also decided to include an emollient heavy moisturizer (Geek and Gorgeous Happier Barrier) to see if it would also wash off (to test the hypothesis that maybe it's the lipids in the formula that cling to the fabric).

TLDR: Sadly, none of them washed out completely in the settings I've selected. The one that did better were the Skin Aqua ones.

Here's the list of products, UV filters and the number of the sample in the shirt:

Product UV filters
Geek and Gorgeous Happier Barrier -
Eucerin Oil Control SPF 50+ Gel-Creme Avobenzone, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb S, Uvinul A Plus, Ensulizole
P20 Sensitive Face SPF 50+ Uvinul A Plus, Tinosorb S, TriAsorB, Uvinul T 150
Garnier Sensitive Expert+ SPF 50+ Octisalate, Uvinul T 150, Avobenzone, Tinosorb S, Mexoryl XL
Biodermal Sun Milk Kids SPF 50+ Tinosorb M, Octisalate, Uvinul A Plus, Tinosorb S, Uvinul T 150
Hema Sun Milk Sensitive SPF 50+ Uvinul A Plus, Octisalate, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb S, Ensulizole
Skin Aqua Super Moisture Barrier UV Essence SPF 50+ Octinoxate, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb S, Tinosorb M, Uvinul A Plus
Skin Aqua Super Moisture UV Essence SPF 50+ Octinoxate, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb S, Tinosorb M, Uvinul A Plus
Geek and Gorgeous Zero Feel SPF 50 Uvinul A Plus, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb S, Ensulizole
Beauty of Joseon Rice + Probiotics SPF50+ Uvinul A Plus, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb M, Uvasorb HEB
Eucerin Sensitive Protect Kids Dry Touch (with their Anti-Stain After Wash technology) Avobenzone, Tinosorb S, Uvinul T 150, Uvinul A Plus, Ensulizole, Uvasorb HEB

Methodology

I've coated the bottom of the fabric with aluminum foil to prevent the sunscreen from migrating to the other side (and also so that the stain can stay pretty soaked).

https://preview.redd.it/fjlmlaggup1h1.jpg?width=1118&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c28070df6a775d9d7cb7950443b49caf5773973

I used precisely 1/32 tbsp of sunscreen for each sample and I've sampled each sunscreen twice. Then I left them for 48h and washed it. Note: I sampled the Eucerin Kids sunscreen the next day, but I then repeated the sample for other 2 sunscreens.

  • In the wash I've selected the Cotton program for 1h12min at 40 degrees with 2 rinses.
  • I've used no stain removers nor oxygen bleach and just a All-in 1 capsule for white clothes (like this one).
  • I've added other 4 white tshirts to balance the load.

Here's the results:

Before the wash

After the wash

Product Sample Number
Geek and Gorgeous Happier Barrier 1, 2
Eucerin Oil Control SPF 50+ Gel-Creme 3, 4
P20 Sensitive Face SPF 50+ 5, 6
Garnier Sensitive Expert+ SPF 50+ 7, 8, 24
Biodermal Sun Milk Kids SPF 50+ 9, 10
Hema Sun Milk Sensitive SPF 50+ 11, 12
Skin Aqua Super Moisture Barrier UV Essence SPF 50+ 13, 14, 23
Skin Aqua Super Moisture UV Essence SPF 50+ 15, 16
Geek and Gorgeous Zero Feel SPF 50 17, 18
Beauty of Joseon Rice + Probiotics SPF50+ 19, 20
Eucerin Sensitive Protect Kids Dry Touch (with their Anti-Stain After Wash technology) 21, 22

Stains before wash (close up)

Stains after wash (close up)

Conclusion

I think they all... sort of failed? Some of the moisturizer also didn't wash completely, so I am guessing some of these stains also have to do with the oils in the sunscreen.

Based on this I would rank them the following way:

S tier: Skin Aqua sunscreens (the Skin Aqua Super Moisture UV Essence SPF 50+ seems be sliiightly better)
A tier: Garnier Sensitive Expert+ SPF 50+
B tier: Everything else seems pretty consistent.

I guess my next step would be to try a stain remover (and maybe some oxygen bleach like Vanish) and see which one gets removed more easily. Happy to take suggestions on what to try next to remove these!

Which sunscreens actually protect well outdoors, not just feel nice? Kindly recommend me guyzzz imma still stuck looking out for sunscreen for my dry and sensitive skin. 😟😟😟

I feel like sunscreen reviews mostly talk about texture, finish and white cast, but not enough about actual outdoor protection.

I have tried sunscreens that felt lightweight and comfortable, but I still got tanned even after applying and reapplying properly. So now I am more interested in sunscreens that actually prevent tanning or burning during high UV days.

For those who spend time outdoors:

  • Which sunscreen do you genuinely trust for protection?
  • Did it prevent tanning or burning?
  • Does it hold up in heat, sweat or humidity?
  • Is it comfortable enough for daily use?

Not looking for influencer-style reviews, just real experiences from people who have tested sunscreen in actual outdoor conditions. Which sunscreens actually protect well outdoors, not just feel nice?

Skin 1004 Water Fit Sun Serum Vs. Skin Aqua Super Moisture UV Gel

Hi I have combo (Oily T Zone and normal cheeks) sensitive acne prone skin and was wondering which is the better choice btwn the 2 sunscreens?

I've heard great reviews for the skin 1004 water serum, however I'm leaning more towards the skin Aqua uv gel more just because there's a lot more product in the skin Aqua one and it's silicone free which is great for my water based makeup.

I like to wear this under makeup too, so I don't want it to pill, break me out, and preferably be sweat and waterproof/resistant too (I feel like this is such a handful to request 😅)

Any opinions or suggestions are welcomed!

Non-Sunscreen Protection

What are your favorite non-sunscreen sun protectors for the heat of the summer? I'm talking rashguards, UV umbrellas, summer jackets, sun sleeves, etc! This Pale Princess burns just by thinking about the sun for too long! Sun protection is the ultimate skincare!

We finally have a sun stick with Mexoryl 400.

I’ve been using it as a lip SPF (it’s a just a tiny bit bitter but way better than most lip SPFs) and for reapplying around my eye area where I’m prone to dark spots. Surprisingly not too shiny. It’s so tiny though :(

Ceraves new mineral sunscreen is 💯

This is the most elegant mineral sunscreen I have tried that is easily accessible and reasonably priced. And I’ve tried them all. Drugstore mineral sunscreens are usually thick and unpleasant to use, leave the white cast (and I’m fair skinned). Chemical sunscreens burn my family’s eyes so for the face it has to be mineral. Cerave knocked it out of the park. The bottle is small but I kinda like that because it’ll fit in my purse!

Update: a few people have commented that this is actually not a completely mineral sunscreen as there are other ingredients that are known to be chemical sunscreens. Very disappointing. I do not have high hopes that my family‘s eyes will tolerate this, but will try it on them nonetheless and report back.

Sunscreen suggestions ?!

Hey I’m looking for a good screen for body. I live in the south very humid here, I’m super pale , my dermatologist says it’s gotta be zinc oxide and titanium I also suffer from facial acne mostly, so for body less sensitive I guess. Lmk any good affordable ones I can get cause Yuka app says Walgreens brands are bad. I’ll order it on Amazon! Maybe spf 50 or more!!!! Korean or not 💕🎀🫧🧖‍♀️

Every single face sunscreen gets in my eyes

No matter how I clean my skin and apply the sunscreen, if I apply it right it always gets in my eyes over the course of the day, usually within an hour of application.

At this point I largely just use my normal sunscreen (first aid beauty hydrating milk sunscreen) and ignore around my eyes, or using a spray sunscreen everywhere including my face. Neither option is ideal.

Does anyone else have this issue? What did you do about it?
