Tokalot: an open-source Wispr Flow alternative

Tokalot: an open-source Wispr Flow alternative

I've been using voice typing a lot lately and really liked Wispr Flow, but I didn't want another monthly subscription. So I built Tokalot, a free, open-source (MIT) voice typing app for Android and Windows, with early Linux and Mac builds.

You talk, it sends the audio to a speech-to-text service with your own API key (Groq by default, and their free tier covers most people), then an AI pass cleans it up. It drops the "ums," applies corrections like "no wait, I meant Thursday," and matches the tone of the app you're in. Then it types it where your cursor is.

  • Android: a small button floats above whatever keyboard you already use
  • Windows: hold Ctrl+Win in any app, talk, let go, and it pastes
  • No account and no Tokalot server. History and recordings stay on your device
  • If a provider is down it tries your other keys, then falls back to on-device Whisper, so you don't lose what you said
  • Optional sync of your dictionary and snippets between phone and PC, through a file in your own Google Drive, Dropbox or similar

A couple of honest caveats. The Android APK isn't on the Play Store, so you'll get a scary warning, because it uses the accessibility permission (that's how it types into other apps, and all the code is public). The Windows installer isn't code-signed yet either. The Linux and Mac builds have barely been run on real hardware, so if you're on either one, a bug report would help a lot.
