Has anybody watched the new Bleach movie?
I just watched the Bleach TYBW The Calamity movie and wanna know everyone’s opinions on things. Incoming rant and spoilers below:
Overall, the new movie was excellent with the improved fight scenes, especially with Uryu vs Jugram. Urahara's had a lot of time to shine, which I loved to see. Ichigo's fight with Yhwach has been extended too.
Kubo added a bunch of Orihime scenes, including the Ichihime ones, to flesh out the anime. While I'm not surprised given the direction of the previous cours, it’s honestly disappointing from a narrative standpoint.
For example, the new scenes include Ichigo properly carrying Orihime away from the falling statues, compared to the manga version where he pulls her out of the way. Another involves Orihime comparing Ichigo to a Flame Lily in a random flashback. Like sure I ship Ichiruki but half the time I was thinking "Are these scenes really necessary?"
I respect that Kubo's putting in hard work with improving TYBW but it's pretty obvious that he's lowkey overcorrecting and almost forcing fans to like/validate Ichihime. And its especially cuz they know Ichigo and Rukia have better chemistry! I will be honest if Rukia were present in these scenes, she would INSTANTLY overshadow the Orihime scenes. That's precisely why Kubo didn't have Ichigo and Rukia interact or fight together against Yhwach.
They have also edited Urahara's infamous dialogue where he says "Sorry to leave the rest of this up to you.. Kurosaki San... Kuchiki San..." and added an extra "everyone" at the end of it in the movie (I believe I saw a post on this). Perhaps she might have a role, but i'm really not sure.
I would have posted this on the main Bleach subreddit, but I know I will get shit on by fans. This is much more of a safe space so I will post it here.
