6 month Ownership review of the X3 M50 in BSM

After about 6 months with the X3 M50, I honestly think BMW nailed the balance on this car. It feels like the perfect middle ground between a full M car and a daily driver. It is fast enough to genuinely surprise people from a dig, but still comfortable enough to drive every day without feeling harsh or annoying.

The B58 and ZF8 combo has probably been my favorite part of the car. The shifts in Sport Plus feel aggressive, the turbo noises are fun, and the car always feels ready to move. Even stock, the car already feels quick for an SUV. Highway pulls feel strong and it still gets decent mileage considering the power.

The technology has also been really good overall. iDrive 9 looks modern and the interior feels premium every time I get in. The car feels smooth on long drives and still practical enough to carry people or stuff around without issue.

One thing I added was the front lip splitter, and honestly it completely changed the look of the car. The install was surprisingly easy and made the front end look way more aggressive without looking overdone. Small change, huge difference.

There are definitely some negatives though. The biggest one right now is aftermarket support. Since it is the newer Gen 3 B58 and iDrive 9 platform, tuning support and coding options are still limited. A lot of companies are still catching up. Another thing is the touchscreen controls. Some things that used to be simple now take extra steps through the screen.

Also, Black Sapphire Metallic looks insane when clean, but it gets dusty fast and shows everything. Keeping it looking perfect takes effort, especially with how picky I am about detailing.

Overall though, the X3 M50 has been an amazing daily. It feels sporty when you want it to, comfortable when you need it to be, and still practical enough to do everything well.
