Urban Sketchers | Bendigo Chapter (newly formed)
An open invitation for anyone in the Bendigo community to join the newly formed Bendigo Urban Sketchers Chapter. Urban Sketching is a global community that connects drawers with free local meet ups for sketching/drawing/painting a local environment. You do not need to be an experienced drawer, everyone is welcome even if you have never picked up a pencil before.
Our first meet up is Friday 4th September, 10-12am at View Point in Bendigo (at the BENDIGO sign in Rosalind Park). We also aim to hold Sketch Meets in the towns around Bendigo, in the coming months.
Welcome to Urban Sketchers Bendigo!
This group is for local and visiting Urban Sketchers (USk) to share sketches, discover the places around us and connect with other sketchers.
Urban Sketchers draw or paint on location, indoors or outdoors, capturing what we see through direct observation. Our sketches tell the story of the places we live, visit and experience, creating a record of a particular time and place. You don't need to consider yourself an artist to join us. Whether you've never picked up a sketchbook before, you're getting back into drawing, or you've been sketching for years, you're welcome here. There is no required skill level, artistic style or medium. Bring whatever you enjoy using.
We celebrate different ways of seeing and encourage everyone to share their own perspective.
THE URBAN SKETCHERS MANIFESTO
• We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.
• Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live and where we travel.
• Our drawings are a record of a time and place.
• We are truthful to the scenes we witness.
• We use any kind of media and cherish our individual styles.
• We support each other and draw together.
• We share our drawings online.
• We show the world, one drawing at a time.
SKETCH MEETS
Free regular sketch meets will be held throughout Greater Bendigo region. Check Events for upcoming locations and details. You don't need to be experienced or know anyone before you arrive. Find a viewpoint that interests you, sketch for as long as suits you and enjoy being around other people who like to draw.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Before you arrive: Check the event details for the meeting location, time and any updates. Bring whatever materials you like to sketch with. A stool or portable chair, hat, sunscreen and water may also be useful depending on the location and weather.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE
Say hello to the organisers so we can welcome you and introduce you to others. If you're not sure where to start, come and say hi. We'll let you know where and when to meet for the throw down and group photo, usually around two hours after the start of the meet. While sketching: Find a viewpoint that interests you, or sit with others and sketch together. There's no expectation that you produce a finished or polished artwork. After the meet: Share your sketch with the group if you'd like to. We love seeing the different ways people interpret the same place and hearing the stories behind the sketches
LOOKING AFTER EACH OTHER
USk Bendigo is a volunteer-run community. Please take responsibility for your own safety and belongings, be aware of your surroundings and don't sketch somewhere you feel unsafe or uncomfortable. We encourage everyone to look out for one another and respect personal space and boundaries.
If you have an accessibility requirement or something that would help you participate comfortably, please feel welcome to contact an Admin before a meet: uskbendigo@gmail.com
