Moroccan working remotely for a foreign company — how do you handle taxes?
Salam everyone,
I'm a Moroccan living in Morocco and working remotely for a Canadian company as an AI/software engineer.
I've been receiving my full salary directly into my Moroccan bank account, with no Moroccan or Canadian tax/CNSS deductions. I'm currently at around $1,575/month, going up to about $1,750 (~16k MAD) soon.
I'm trying to figure out how to properly regularize this. I've looked into auto-entrepreneur, CPU, RNS/RNR, SARL AU and portage salarial, but every option seems to have different taxes, social contributions and complications. CPU also seems to exclude IT/software service providers.
I'd really like to hear from Moroccans in a similar situation:
- What status are you using?
- How much do you actually pay in taxes/contributions/accounting?
- Are you using RNS/RNR, SARL, portage, EOR, or something else?
- How do you handle a single foreign client?
- Has your status affected visa applications/residency abroad or proof of income?
I don't want to unnecessarily lose a huge portion of my income.
If you're doing something similar, I'd really appreciate hearing what you're actually doing and what your experience has been.
