Base Simulation Hypothesis Theories

There's a lot of confusion and misleading information about the Simulation Hypothesis. I would like to outline 3 possible scenarios for why we might be living in a simulation for anyone who may be struggling with the realistic possibility. This is meant to be a philosophical exercise intended to promote conversation, discussion, and standardization of the Simulation Hypothesis ideology.

The Ancestor Simulation proposes that humanity is being recreated by a future civilization seeking to better understand its own history. This concept was popularized by philosopher Nick Bostrom, who argued that technologically advanced civilizations may possess enough computing power to simulate the lives of their ancestors in extraordinary detail. Rather than existing as entertainment, the simulation functions as a historical reconstruction, scientific experiment, or educational tool.

The Preservation Simulation

The Preservation Simulation imagines a future in which Earth’s environment has become incapable of sustaining human civilization. Whether through climate collapse, nuclear war, ecological destruction, pandemics, or resource depletion, humanity reaches a point where physical existence is no longer viable on a large scale. To preserve the species, a governing body places the surviving population into life-support systems while their minds continue to exist inside an immersive simulated world.

The Fantasy Simulator

The Fantasy Simulator Theory proposes that our universe was created not for scientific research, historical reconstruction, or survival, but primarily for recreation, experimentation, or entertainment. Like The Sims, Grand Theft Auto, or Second Life, the creators establish an environment, define its rules, introduce variables, and allow players to assume a role and play in the world they wish to experience. There may be no grand objective at all. Our universe could be a game, a creative project, a classroom exercise, or one simulated world among millions. The purpose of the simulation and the purpose of the people living inside it do not have to be the same thing.

Basic Simulation Hypothesis Theories

Hey Guys,

Here at the Society of Simulation Hypothesis Consciousness and Learning(SSCRL), we are trying to promote philosophical conversation while creating a resource for standardized theories about The Simulation Hypothesis. One of our big concerns in that people new to the idea won't take it seriously because its either too hard to digest or information is lacking coherence. We are looking people to join the conversations, add to our stories, theories, and research and be a part of the bigger Simulation Hypothesis development. Feel free to message me about any thoughts and take a look at our website.

Ideology: The Eight Postulates of The Simulation Theory

The 8 postulates of the Simulation Theory are foundational questions that guide the exploration of the simulation hypothesis. Each ideology represents a possibility worthy of investigation and discussion. Together, they form the starting point for inquiry. What do you think the foundations of The Simulation Theory are?

I. Reality May Be Constructed.

The universe we experience may not represent base reality, but rather an artificial environment created by an intelligence beyond our perception.

II. Consciousness May Be Observable.

Our thoughts, choices, and behaviors may be the true subject of the simulation rather than the physical world around us.

III. Free Will May Be Limited.

Our decisions may emerge from genuine autonomy, predetermined systems, or a combination of both. Determining where agency begins remains one of the Society’s central questions.

IV. Reality May Be Layered.

The simulation itself may exist within another simulation, creating successive layers of reality beyond our ability to observe.

V. Time May Not Be Constant.

Time within the simulation may pass differently than it does for its creators. Entire civilizations could unfold in moments or a single day could represent centuries here.

VI. The World May Be Dynamic.

Events, environments, and even history itself may be altered in response to variables beyond our awareness, much like updates to an evolving system.

VII. Observation May Influence Reality.

The act of observing, measuring, or becoming conscious of a system may itself influence how that system behaves.

VIII. Discovery May Be the Purpose.

Whether created for research, preservation, entertainment, education, or reasons beyond our imagination, the simulation may ultimately exist to observe the emergence of consciousness itself.
