Glad I happened upon this sub because I love looking at other people’s islands lol, but I finally mostly “finished” mine last week and wanted to share some screenshots. I’m sure i’ll be adding more stuff within a few weeks LOL
I was running into several issues trying to set my capture card up earlier but this was the one I really found nothing about so I wanted to ask about it. Occasionally when I would first open OBS and connect the capture card and turn on the switch, the video capture would just be a static image of whatever screen the switch was docked on. Usually a few minutes later it would just black screen and I would have to restart my PC again. The card *was* however detecting fine on my built in camera app. Eventually it just stopped doing the static image thing and I was able to get a decently long stream out of it, but I have no idea what changed and made it work.
I tried every setting change in the book— if you google ‘capture card black screen obs’, I did everything everyone recommended to no avail. Did not find anything about people getting static images from their capture card on obs.
Yes, my USB was plugged into a 3.0, yes all my wires were firmly connected and connected to the correct ins and outs, yes my switch was properly docked and using its original Nintendo charger, yes I tried switching resolutions.
I was using Fifine’s V3 capture card and will be returning it due to other, non obs issues it gave me. I usually quite like the brand but this one really disappointed me, so i’ll be switching it out for something else. I don’t *think* this specific issue was the capture card since my other programs were capturing the video fine, but who knows.
Just curious if anyone else has encountered this issue and if they have a definitive fix that isn’t ‘try not to smash your head through a brick wall in frustration for three hours while you fight obs and a capture card’.
