i was talking to my india indian friend and he told me about this auto-park mechanism available on their tier 1 city MRTs. how it works (last pic): you slide the front wheel of the bike into the lock and it automatically hoists the bike vertically. every car has one such mechanism, so an 8-car train will have 8 parking slots. they use alstom/bombardier rolling stock just like us so there’s no reason why we can’t incorporate the same feature, especially as we make the shift to a cycle-friendly society. i didn’t even know these things existed until today.
From the ST archives, June 1998. Relevant paragraph about car length is in the last column of the article titled ‘Marina Line gets go-ahead’. As most of us know, the Marina Line was the predecessor of the Circle Line.
cos how is this not offensive to the hundreds of thousands of singaporean indians who practice the hindu faith? as well as the sikhs and some buddhists who refrain from eating beef? make it make sense. beef ain’t kryptonite to hindus fwiw, just like pork ain’t kryptonite to muslims. some of you really dk anything about the ‘M’ and ‘I’ in the ‘CMIO’.
