It's time to begin the Summer Sadness Bracket to find the worst (least-loved?) Moodies song of all time.
Sixteen songs didn't quite seem like enough, and 32 songs was too many. I settled on 20 songs. To maintain the bracket format, twelve unpopular tunes are receiving a bye into the second round. The eight remaining songs will do battle in four, round one matches. The four survivors will move on to round two, where a standard 16-entry bracket commences.
I hope this makes sense. You can see in the attached image that 12 tunes have already "won". If there are any objections, corrections, or points of confusion, please let me know at this time.
We can start the first matchup tomorrow.
Nights in White Satin emerges as the winner, having to face two opponents in the finals. Even the combined weight of Question and The Story in Your Eyes couldn’t take down a giant.
Thank you to everyone who voted. Thank you for all the interesting discussions. My knowledge of my favorite band is deepened for listening to how these songs resonate with you all personally.
I’ll take a 2 week break before jumping into the sadness bracket, methinks.
Ach, maybe this all seemed inevitable. But I held a lot of songs up to scrutiny in this 5 week exercise, imagining that I’d vote for Question over Nights in the end. But when art moves beyond beautiful and becomes sublime, well… that’s hard to quantify, and impossible to ignore.
Check out the pre-game thread if you missed it:
Welp… with 28 votes in semifinal 2, between Question and Story, the winner is… no one.
Both songs will move on to the 3-way final (will post that poll soon).
In the meantime, here are some fun links.

Which song will join Nights in White Satin in the finals?
Final Four! Which of these 2 epics will move on to the Finals?
3.3: There’s no Question. See ya, See-Saw
3.4: Round three concludes with a doozy, as two Hayward rockers do battle.
3.1: The curtain of Night comes down on The Actor
3.2: a real conundrum: Legend of a Mind vs Tuesday Afternoon
The scores from round 2, for the curious.
There were only 2 close contests, which is surprising. That should change in round 3.
The Elite Eight are set!
Gypsy travels on as the Tide Rushes out.
Now in round 3, Nights in White Satin squares off against The Actor
2.6: we watched and waited, and See-Saw squeaked by
2.7: Speaking of close matchups… Eyes or Voice?
