Can anyone identify these white capsule-like objects and the organisms I found in my Fluval canister filter?
The tank and equipment are all brand new. I’m setting up a 10-gallon aquarium for a single betta.
The aquarium has never housed a fish, plants, snails, shrimp, or substrate. It’s just tap water treated with Dechlorinator, a Fluval 107 canister filter, and an Eheim TruTemp heater. All I’ve done is add tap water and DeCHLOR. Heated to 80°. Also using fenbendazole to treat rhabdocoela that showed up first.
The photo with a large oval shows white capsule-like object, of which there are hundreds, floating in circulation. The other photos show the organisms I found in the bottom of the canister filter, which seem to be attached to the sides and bottom.
Are these related? Does anyone recognize either of them? Any ideas where they could have come from?
My goal is to start with a clean system before adding a fish. If disinfection is recommended, what would you use and why?
