What does hearing loss mean to you?

If you have normal hearing thresholds, but you feel like your hearing has changed / been reduced, that is still a loss do you agree?

There is much more to hearing beyond the 8khz range. My entire surroundings are dull, I can hear stuff but they are distant and lack the nuances. To keep it simple, my ears don’t react to sound nor feel the vibrations/sensations. (Hearing but not feeling)

I hope there is a cure for this one day im 6 months in

Hearing aid expectations

I’ve posted quite a bit here since my hearing change which occurred in late January, still in normal range but my quality of life has been severely impacted (potential hidden hearing loss). My audiologist says I can trial a hearing aid and tomorrow im going to Costco to get one.

What are some expectations for hearing aids for those still in normal range? I can hear every sound but there is no brightness to what I hear, everything is so dull and dialled down from both ears. Im not expecting perfection but to make my life easier.

Problems hearing but with a normal audiogram?

To those of you who might have suspected hidden hearing loss, is the main criteria the inability to understand speech in busy/noisy settings? I did well for the speech-in-noise at my hearing test but that is because you just to have to follow what the 1 speaker is saying in a simulation.

In real life noisy environments, it is extremely hard for me to follow conversations when multiple people are talking at the same time. I feel that passing a speech-in-noise test doesnt rule out that one still has hidden hearing loss.

Just my thoughts.

Final post and acceptance

Over the past few months, I couldn’t stop looking for answers as to why my hearing changed despite audiogram results like these or per my previous posts.

I’d just like to say an audiogram doesn’t tell the full story of one’s symptoms. I’ll just have to live the rest of my life with this diminished sound quality perception and protect what I have.

I know my hearing change is not severe as some others in this forum. This is why im posting here one last time.

Wish you all the very best.

Anyone have similar symptoms?

January 2026: Noticed change in my hearing when I was playing music randomly and it didn’t hit the same

February 2026: I had to increase volume a bit higher than expected to hear music better which could have made things worse, noticed everything around me started to sound flat / dull

March 2026: Got my hearing test done and in “normal” range between 10-20 db but I still can’t hear sound the way I used to before. I also got an APD test few weeks after which was ruled out.

April 2026: MRI came back with TMJ issues and nothing wrong with my ears according to the report

May 2026 (today): Got an advanced hearing test done which included the extended high frequencies and I did well up to 16khz

My question is, do any of you have no measurable hearing loss on an audiogram but your perception of sound has changed? I’m not sure what other tests are out there like an ABR or something. It could be hidden hearing loss or minor cochlear damage which could have shifted sound perception permanently.

How is your hearing?

I don’t have tinnitus (at least not that I notice) but I do have a history of music exposure from headphones. My hearing has declined even though I am still in normal range. Does anyone have changes to their hearing and if so, what was the cause?

I will be testing for the extended high frequency next week

I can hear sounds but my problem is HOW I hear the sounds. They lack detail and presence which makes listening depressing. I have to put extra effort into listening to someone because of the lack of signal im receiving. This could be hidden hearing loss

I noticed a change of hearing about 3 months ago and every hearing test says im normal but it doesn’t feel that way anymore. My main issue is clarity of sound. I am aware I might have hidden hearing loss but I was wondering for those who may have HHL, what benefit does a hearing aid provide? I can still hear all sounds but they’re less detailed / crisp from before… my worry is the hearing aid will just amplify those less detailed sounds and not necessarily make it clearer.
