I've built dozens of web apps and tools – but I genuinely can't sell. Anyone else stuck here?
I'm a developer. Building things comes naturally. Over the years I've shipped countless projects – tools, platforms, full web applications. I know my way around code.
But selling? That's where I hit a wall.
Cold outreach is largely off the table for me – in Germany, unsolicited cold emails and calls are legally restricted for B2B (and practically forbidden for consumers). I already learned this the hard way with a cease and desist letter and a €400 legal bill for what I thought was innocent outreach.
The frustrating part is I actually believe in some of my projects. Two right now that I genuinely care about:
- **wohnpilot24.de** – A tool for creating professional real estate listings/exposés. Built for agents and private sellers who can't afford expensive agencies.
- **renoshot.de** – A before/after tool for renovations that also generates design tips. Perfect for contractors, interior designers, or anyone wanting to showcase their work professionally.
Both are live, working, and solve real problems. But I'm standing here not knowing how to reach people without either getting into legal trouble or just shouting into the void.
How do you get traction as a solo dev without cold outreach? SEO, communities, partnerships, content marketing – what's actually worked for you?
Happy to hear any experience. And if you happen to be in real estate or renovation – I'd genuinely love your feedback on the tools.
