Terrible teeth…feeling lost!

Hi everyone! I just went to the dentist for the first time in 10 years (I’m 25, parents are shitty and spent their money on what they wanted to. Now I’m trying to fix everything!)

The dentist I saw is saying that I need 6 extractions, 4-5 implants, 6 fillings, and recommended braces.

I simply cannot afford implants. Right now I am paying out of pocket for everything. I asked about dentures and was told that I am young and saving what teeth I have and getting implants would be best. I feel like there was no conversation there.

A few questions I have are:

Has anyone elected for dentures over implants? What did you say to your dentist if so?

How much total were your dentures/extractions? Did you have insurance or pay out of pocket? If you have a payment plan, what are the payments like?

Those with regular dentures, have you experienced bone loss? Especially anyone young as this is one of my main fears!

Implants? Dentures?

Long story short: My parents were the type to only take me to the dentist if I was in excruciating pain. Old fillings broke, I have no back teeth on my right lower, I have a tooth on the roof of my mouth. Basically, it’s all a mess.

I went to the dentist for the first time in 10 years yesterday. I need 6 fillings, 4? Teeth extracted, 6 implants, and braces were recommended. Just my exam, cleaning, and X-rays was $567.

To just do what I NEED done will be over $20k. Would it be silly of me to ask about dentures? I feel like with needing this much work and how easily my previous fillings crack I’d be in the same spot again a few years down the line. At least with dentures everything would be solved and I’d have a straight smile. My dentist referred to my teeth as a “jumbled up mess” lol.
