I fear I will never see him again!
This time of year is great for a plant refresh! Stores are discounting well rooted and plentiful plants!
It finally happened!
After 11 months of building trust, hand feeding, and respecting his space, I was able to gently guide Freckles onto my hand. He scurried up my arm and up to my head. We gave him a juicy horn worm and superworm before letting him go back to his home. I'm so happy and excited!
(Please excuse my morning hair and face)
Possible Trust Establishing?
Hello! We got our panther chameleon, Freckles, in September 2025. He used to do the "behind a branch hide" every time we went near him. We recently upgraded him to a huge enclosure made out of an old china cabinet hutch (4Lx2Wx4H) with all live plants, tons of sticks to climb on, and everything else is basically self sufficient (timed lights, timed misting, timed fogger, mostly self draining) and he's really come out of his shell. His colours are way brighter and he no longer hides from us. We've also been hand feeding crickets (out of a small container) and all worms by hand. He has no issues with any of that. Takes him less than 10 seconds to take whatever we're giving him. Over the last few weeks, when we've been near the enclosure, he's been almost rushing to come greet us and he will hang down and stare at us for as long as we stand there. I'm wondering if this could be signs of gaining trust? I've been able to get my hand close to him but he gapes if I get too close so I back off when he tells me that that's close enough. My goal is to get him to trust me enough to eventually be able to handle but completely understand that it may never happen. Anyway, what are your thoughts? Could he be starting to see us as food deliverers and not predators? Pic added of the first time he charged down to see me (apologize for the quality, it was taken from a video). Thank you!
I've found my first!
I live in the middle of SK, Canada. I've never seen one so was super excited to help this guy. He was struggling on his back so I picked him up, took a pic, and he opened his wings and left us. How cute is that snoot?
I will never get over how beautiful they are
