William Kinney aka William X Nietzche back in the news

>Portland police raided the infamous red house on North Mississippi Avenue last week after reports that its occupant, William Kinney III, had harassed and threatened to shoot employees and contractors working on the nonprofit Self Enhancement Inc.’s neighboring property.

>Police arrested Kinney, 41, last Tuesday at the residence. He faces charges of possession of a short-barreled rifle, five counts of felon in possession of a firearm and three counts of being a felon in possession of body armor.

relevance update to episode 202 the red house on missippi

I listened to an old episode and enjoyed it a lot more than some of the recent episodes so I decided to let it keep going on the back catalog and then Google some updates and this episode was really timely since this update happened 8 days ago now. The son did get the house back, it still has all of the hand painted signs about gentrification and indigenous. The lot next door was donated to a charity which builds affordable homes for poc. He's been threatening the neighbors filing writs and so on and threatening everybody to the point the house was raided and firearms, ammunition, and body armor were located and William Kinney is a felon who cannot possess these items.

Leatherman spotted in Sherlock

I was rewatching Sherlock with the wife tonight and noticed Moriarty used a squirt p4 to carve IOU on an apple while visiting 221b Baker street.

So I guess the rumors are true, they do have Leathermen in the UK. Timecode 26:40

FIrst Batch!

https://preview.redd.it/kev4vlj0sn7h1.jpg?width=3341&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6880885b0a19ae0bf215144af75aa46404410ffd

It's often difficult to know if a Leatherman tool was part of the first batch or not. The PST and MiniTool for instance didn't have date codes for the first 6-8 years. Most of the time, the tool doesn't change shortly after release so one tool just looks like another. Some things you might look for are TM or Patent pending but those really only tell you that it was early in the run. But one of Leatherman's tools had several changes after release that mark prerelease tools and I managed to finally grab both models.

and since i now have both, For anyone else looking here's a guide for what is interesting and what to look for.

In the picture above is the Charge TI and the Charge XTI, announced in April of 2004 along with the 2nd generation wave, these sold for about double the wave's $60 price and included a 154CM plain edge blade and Titanium scales. Unlike the wave they included the pocket clip and lanyard attachment, and a small kit of Leatherman's new flat bits.

In this picture you can see several differences that mark this as early run/first batch. The scales say TM, later they would say R (registered) or omit the mark altogether. The screws are pentalobe, not torx. The eyeglass screwdriver does not have a spring. And the bitkit is clear not black resin

The difference between the models were a cap crimper plier and a guthook on the serrated. The XTI also includes 2 large bit drivers and omits the scissor and prybar

Pentalobe HS screws were used on the original wave, the sideclip, and the beginning of the 2nd gen wave and charge. For the Charge and 2nd Generation wave this changed fairly soon after release to Torx. Some people think the screws are 5 lobe torx but pentalobe has pedals, like flower pedals, torx has points

The spine of the frame does include patent pending which is another indicator of being early in the run

These tools were announced at shot show 2004, here's a link to an article on the release http://www.equipped.org/shot_show_2004_knives.htm in April and these tools both have an 04/04 stamp

https://preview.redd.it/ftm032o3vn7h1.jpg?width=3819&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a2ae3ba1ea9655fc16b5a356a3b262e447c9583

a closer view of the bitkits

they started out crystal clear but time and sunlight ages them. Any tools that saw much outdoors would have had these turning orange and becoming extremely brittle. You can see damage on the bottom one that I think came when the tool, in its sheath, fell off of a counter and cracked the end loop. These are pretty impossible to find.

I got the TI at least a decade ago from a pawn shop for $50, The XTI i owe to u/T0M101087 for posting about them and reminding me to look. First batch tools like this normally sell around the $300+ range for just the tool. This one came with the sheath and hard to find bitkit and I managed to bargain the ebay seller down to $209 which is a really good price for such a complete tool.

Much of the same would be true for a wave first batch, dates prior to 04/04 eyeglass screwdriver lacking a spring and pentalobe hs screws. I have never seen one of these so if you have one make sure and post it.

And if anyone has the full bitkit in clear resin that would also be worth a post. Those simply do not exist in this timeline, i've searched but never even seen one talked about.

Help!

I got my wife the best gift I've given her in years, a video bird feeder and for weeks everything has been great. Lots of finches, gold and house, Sparrows and we'd fill it once a week or so.

Then we needed seed, so while at Sam's we bough a 40# bag https://www.samsclub.com/ip/members-mark-supreme-blend-wild-bird-food-40-lbs/13624465500

And now we fill the feeder and in a couple hours it's empty. A hoard of grackles and red winged black birds comes and one shovels all of the seed out of the feeder and then goes to the ground to hoover up what they shoveled out.

The only thing we can figure for a difference is that the sunflower nuts were shelled in our previous feed which did ***not*** attract the grackles or red winged black birds.

Please tell me what's going on here and what to do. My wife enjoyed the little finches and Sparrows but these big bully birds (as you can see in the video) chase them away and empty the whole feeder to the ground.

and... another one

Forest

The entire group

So, I have needed to get back to a charge since I got my alpha (as a valentines present) And one way to do that is to get another one as a present. Told my wife I was looking for this one for fathers day and she came through. It was at a great price, barely above retail. I added the donk camo clip to complete the look. I count the alpha as my 13th charge because.... it is.

The expensive ones are the TI year of the monkey (top right) the real tree camo (3rd from the left). Two of the TI as well as the black AL and one of the black charge + were $50, the SLV was $86, otherwise I've paid between $90-150 for the rest. There are something like 77 variations on the charge, so I have a way to go and a lot of money to make. Some of the limited editions were gold ($40,000) or silver ($9000) so it's going be an ongoing quest

So I found another good deal on a sideclip ($45) so I had to buy it, the two I have, one is early production (02/98) and one at the very end of productiom (05/03). But the new one I just got is from prerelease with dates of 12/97 and 1/98.

Still on the factory knife edge too almost 30 years later
