Experience with checking a wine carrier "suitcase" and number of allowed bottles?

We are returning to the US from Croatia on Air France. We would like to bring a wine "suitcase" we have that holds 12 bottles of wine, and check it as luggage. Fully loaded it meets the standard checked luggage rules for weight and dimensions.

I have questions about AF's stated rules for checking alcohol from their website:

Please note: For beverages with an alcohol content between 24% and 70%, the maximum amount authorized for transport is 5 L/1.3 gal. per container per person.

  • In the  cabin: No
  • In the  hold: Yes (a maximum of 5 L/1.3 gal. per person, for alcoholic beverages between 24% and 70% alcohol by volume)
  • Prior approval  needed: No

I just want to clarify that the 5 Liter maximum only applies if the wine is over 24% alcohol? Most wines are well under that, so I'm hoping it will not be a problem to check 12 bottles. I just don't want to get to the baggage check in and have them refuse it.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks
