Scripting Find/Replace Fonts to update Adobe Fonts including styles?

I need to replace missing "Source Sans Pro (OTF)" fonts with their correct Source Sans Pro counterparts and update the styles.

Every time I try to use a script to do this, it changes the correct fonts, but replaces them with some entirely different font. I suspect InDesign is failing to find the Adobe fonts and then defaulting to the first font in some list instead. The font is always something starting with A.

There are hundreds of these files. They are absolutely riddled with overrides and ridiculously inconsistent. Manually updating fonts or applying templates would be a nightmare.

Anyone have success batch updating styles and fonts to adobe fonts in this way?

TL;DR: As the title says, I would like to generate a list of INDD files in a directory (and subfolders) along with their layers and conditions. Any format will be more helpful than opening file after file to check under the hood.

Use case: I need to correct 5 years of people being completely inconsistent with versioning even as our number of versions has exploded. This is the first step-- finding what Layers and Conditional Text we're dealing with.

Example: there is an answer layer in our Assessments documents. Simple enough in theory-- export teacher with the layer visible and student with it hidden. Except every team that's ever touched these files seems to have used a different term for the layer: Answer, answer, Answers, AAK, AAKS, etc. That's only one type of issue across many, many documents. All of which are also available in Spanish.
