Did people who worked retail in the 90s and early 2000’s make a living wage ?

Nowadays it feels like retail jobs often don’t pay enough to afford necessities like housing, children, a car, and other basic expenses. A lot of people also seem to look down on retail and don’t consider it a “real job.”I recently saw an Instagram post claiming that people who worked at places like Sears in the 90s could actually make a living wage and afford basic necessities. Is that true? I was born in the 2000s, so I honestly don’t know what retail wages/living standards were like back then.

Should I keep studying accounting?

Hi everyone, I’m currently studying accounting and I’ll be a junior this fall. It’s something I genuinely enjoy learning about and feel passionate about, but lately I’ve been getting anxious about the future of the field.
I’ve seen some people in the industry say accounting won’t really get taken over by AI, while others say it’s going to become much more competitive and automated. I know the job market in general is rough right now, but I’m worried about getting a degree and then struggling to find a stable job afterward.
I’m not really a “people person,” so I’ve been drawn to accounting because it feels more structured and practical. I guess I’m just looking for honest opinions from people already in the field — do you still think accounting is a good career path going forward?
