SmallRig Cage not compatible with DJI gimbals

SmallRig Cage not compatible with DJI gimbals

I’m seeing a disclaimer from a photo on their website that the SmallRig cage integrated arca swiss plate isn’t compatible with any DJI gimbals. Any ideas why this would be the case? I find it hard to believe since this is the main appeal of having an integrated arca Swiss plate on the cage. I emailed them a week ago to clarify and haven’t gotten a response.

You don’t need 32 bit float audio

Sure, it’s nice to have if it’s available, but here are the facts.

As a baseline, 0 dB is absolute silence and 140dB is louder than a jet engine at takeoff. Instant ear trauma.

24 bit audio has a theoretical dynamic range of 144dB.

32 bit float audio has a dynamic range of over 1,500dB. Louder than anything on Earth.

Let’s look at a popular shotgun mic, the Sennheiser MKE600 and assume we’re using a battery to power the mics internal preamp.

The noise floor of this mic is 16dB, meaning anything at the level or below will be noise from the working internals of the microphone. The max SPL of the mic is 126dB. Bringing a net working dynamic range of this microphone to 110dB. This means this microphone is the bottle neck within either 24bit or 32bit audio. The microphone will clip before the audio track clips with proper level settings.

The Rode VideoMic Pro is similar with a slight advantage of 120dB total dynamic range.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but in any case with proper settings, the microphone seems to always be the bottle neck, not the 24bit audio file.

Is it really that tough to manage a basic audio level? I see a lot of people hung up on the fact the FX5 doesn’t have 32 bit float without the handle. In 10 years, I’ve only need 32bit one time. And that’s because I didn’t bother to set the level for a loud sound because I knew I had 32 bit as a crutch.

FX5 media

For those who are adding the FX5 to their kit and don’t have CFExpress cards, what’s your thoughts on the best buy? Ideally, I want to purchase two 980gb Sony cards but my god these prices are wild. I see these Nova cards are cheap but not sure if I trust them.
