casa should not be allowed to watch episodes beforehand

hi i’m a new watcher so if there’s a reason they’re allowed to that makes sense my bad, but I don’t like how casa is allowed to watch everything up until casa! it gives them an insight that the islanders didn’t have and they can manipulate this to work in their favor. for example, Titi coming in so hot and all for KC, I feel like she is trying to be the opposite of Aniya’s personality which is clearly what all us viewers can see he wanted.

Student made me cry today

High school long term sub here. The way these kids talk to each other is disgusting. And I know high schoolers have always been mean, but it feels even more brutal than ever.

Today two boys were telling another student in front of everyone that he’s “musty”. I of course told them to stop, gave a short lecture, and then the bell rang.

The boy they were calling musty stayed after class after everyone left and asked me if I had any perfume he could put on.
I had a travel size unisex spray that I let him use, he sprayed a couple sprays, thanked me and told me to have a good weekend.

After he walked out I broke down.

These kids get away with everything…

Long term high school sub here. All my other classes are great, but 6th period is the bane of my existence. This teacher left them absolutely no work so it’s a free period everyday. Yesterday one of the boys was sm*king a w*ed pen in class. He went under the desk, started coughing really bad, and then acted ridiculous the rest of the period.
Now I had to play this smart. As soon as these students see you pick up the phone, they break their necks to see if you’re calling admin. I did not want to give them (two involved in this but only one was actually smoking IN class) time to hide the evidence. It’s also relevant to note that they openly talk about smoking everyday loudly but think I’m not paying attention.
This was towards the end of class and next period was my off period, so I went down to the AP and gave them the names of the boys and what happened.
The AP said she already knows about one boy and that she has tried to search him before but he was able to hide it before she got there, so my concerns about that were valid.
Unfortunately, I have learned that this school district lets them get away with crazy things. It’s 1 in 100 that actually face consequences. Also, the alternative school here is at capacity so their alternative is just ISS now.

So at this point I guess reporting them is for my own benefit and documentation purposes rather than anything actually being done about it??
Just trying to grin and bear it these last few weeks!!!

Had to write a kid up for the first time

I’m a long-term sub for high school so that’s why I’m allowed to write referrals (I know some districts won’t let subs)

On Tuesday I noticed a student leave the class 2 minutes early, he did not present a pass or reason for this so I made a mental note of it. Wednesday he did the same, but I did not catch it until I heard the door shut. So yesterday I made sure to be watching the door around that time and sure enough he went to leave, I said “if you leave early again without speaking to me about it, I’m going to write you up” he mockingly said “ooooo” and walked out.

Now being a long term sub is a different ballgame, I can’t just write this in the note to their teacher because I now AM the teacher. I honestly thought me “threatening” to write him up would be enough, but since he actually did it I feel like I had to follow through. One thing I can’t stand that teachers do are empty threats. That’s setting the tone and letting the students know you’re all talk.

Also the day before, a student checked in for attendance and then asked me if he could use the restroom. I said sure! He never came back. I think he assumed since I’m a sub I wouldn’t notice or care, but I went in and marked him absent.

I am proud of myself for being a kind sub, but also not being a pushover. It’s taken months to gain this kind of confidence but I feel this approach has earned me respect with *some* of the students

Just what the title says lol. I bring a purse but I’m kinda wanting to start bringing a backpack so I can pack extra little things to do to keep me entertained during the day at high school (crossword puzzle books, books to read on my free period etc)

I’m so excited! It’s at my favorite school. I’ve subbed this class once before and they were AWESOME. I knew this teacher was thinking about leaving so I told them I’d love to take over for the rest of the year if it came to that.

It’s high school robotics and some sort of technology class. I want to do some type of introduction tomorrow and have them go around and tell me their names without it being “corny” lol. They were sweet kids last time so fingers crossed it’s smooth sailing and we can have a good last month together!

I need a sanity check on a situation that’s been bothering me.

I have a friend who is a long-term high school substitute. She’s very friendly with students, which is fine in itself, but she lets kids who aren’t in her current class come hang out during her class periods and will even write them passes to be there. A lot of the students she does this for are her former students from a previous long-term assignment.

She tends to treat it like it’s harmless and not a big deal, and she can be pretty naive by nature, which I think plays into how she sees this.

What’s been bothering me more is that during her last period (which is her off period), one specific boy who is not her student comes into her room every day, and it’s just the two of them. The classroom door has to stay closed per school policy.

I genuinely do not think she has bad intentions at all, but this feels like a huge boundary issue and a potential risk for her professionally. It seems like the kind of situation that could be misinterpreted or turn into something serious if a student said the wrong thing.

I’ve tried to hint that it might not be a good idea, but she brushes it off and doesn’t take it seriously.

Am I overreacting, or is this actually as concerning as it feels?
