Letterboxd desperately needs its own database editor

For those who don't know, Letterboxd currently sources information about films from an online database called "The Movie Database", and uses it to create entries its own database. The problem is that TMDB has a team of strict, elitst mods who arbtirarily erase entries for whatever they deem "amateur content", among other things. Once erased from TMDB, entries remain on Letterboxd but become un-editable, meaning that incorrect and missing info can never be fixed or replaced. Most TMDB editors already only view it as a middleman for editing Letterboxd, so I think it's time for Letterboxd to step in by allowing its community to make direct edits to the LB database, rather continuing to allow it to be governed by the moderation policies of a smaller site.

My personal final straw was having over half of my contributions deleted at once after spending over a year creating TMDB entries for dozens of independant films, despite the fact that these entries were viewed and contributed to by countless other users. Some of the most artful of those films were wiped out from the site, while some much lower in quality were kept, all decided arbitrarily based on how much clout the filmmakers had.

Having more true, free, public information about more films is never a bad thing, and a small team of mods shouldn't be allowed to decide what is and isn't film. Independant artists shouldn't be pouring their efforts into shilling themselves and their art just to become 'worthy' of being remembered; their work should be allowed to speak for itself.
