Public Telescope Viewing at Zuanich Point Park - July 5th, 7-10PM

We are all systems GO for sharing telescopes tonight at Zuanich Point Park!

Look for us near the Fisherman's Memorial.

7:00–9:00 PM: View the Sun through a Hydrogen Alpha telescope, revealing prominences and other solar features invisible to the naked eye.

After sunset: We'll begin searching for Venus, double stars, globular clusters, and nebulae as the sky gets darker.

All are welcome!

Telescopes at Zuanich This Weekend 7-10pm

If you would like to look through a telescope for free this weekend, then we will be near the Fisherman's Memorial at Zuanich Point Park from 7-10pm both tonight (6/20) and tomorrow night (6/21).

Our targets will be the Sun, Moon and any visible planets.

For looking at the Sun we will have a 40mm Hydrogen Alpha Telescope with multiple redundant filters for safe viewing of the Sun's Chromosphere, which is a really cool word. It's the part of the Sun's atmosphere that has fire tornadoes longer than Earth.

For looking at everything else, we will bring a Celestron 9.25" SCT for up-close views of the Lunar surface and nearby planets.

If you have a telescope or binoculars you would also like to bring, please do!

Solar Telescope at Zuanich Starting at 7PM (5/31)

We will be practicing Solar Astronomy with a 40mm Hydrogen Alpha Telescope at Zuanich Point Park starting at 7pm and anyone may join us for free!

The telescope is specifically designed for looking at the Sun, showing us Solar prominences (flares) happening in real-time!! We can also see Sun Spots and other Solar features, SAFELY.

That last part is essential!! Our Solar Telescope (Galileo) was built with multiple redundant filters for safe viewing. When you look through it, you will only see a fraction of the Red light being emitted by the Sun. No In-fared, UV, or other harmful rays can get through this telescope. That red light is then cut down by about a billionth inside the telescope, making it so only photons emitted by Hydrogen atoms buzzing at the energy levels of Alpha (656nm/Deep Red) can physically get to our eyes. Hence, why it's called a Hydrogen Alpha Telescope.

After the Sun sets, we will have a brief window to chase the planets before the park closes. We are hoping to see Venus and Jupiter around 9:30 PM with a large traditional telescope.

We will have telescopes set up near the Fisherman's Memorial at Zuanich Point Park from 7-10pm tonight (5/3). Anyone may join us for free!

We will start off by checking out the Sun's activity with a Lunt 40mm Solar telescope and then switch to our Celestron 9.25" for observing the cloud belts of Jupiter. Venus will also be visible!

Just note that the park's gate closer to the water closes early, while the one on N Harbor Loop Dr stays open until 10pm! If you are in the park after close, the gate will still open to let you leave.

Space!

A view through Galileo, our Solar Telescope.
