Almost a year into an LDR, but I’m starting to feel the weight of never having met

My boyfriend and I have been in a long-distance relationship for almost a year. I know we love each other deeply and even though we’ve never met in person, what we have feels very real and meaningful to both of us. But lately I’ve been struggling with the *longing*.

I want the things that are impossible for us right now like as simply as holding his hand, going on actual dates, watching movies together on the same couch, being physically close, having intimacy and just being able to exist beside the person I love.

The hardest part is that neither of us is in a position financially to make the distance disappear. We’re both broke, so plane tickets aren’t realistic at least right now and we also can’t just take a long break from work. There’s no clear certainty about when we’ll finally be able to meet.

I love him and I genuinely cannot bear the thought of losing him. We’ve had our own share of problems but we have managed to keep our relationship going because we both trust that what we have is real and genuine. But at the same time, I’m starting to wonder how long I can keep being okay with a relationship where I don’t know when I’ll ever get to experience those ordinary things with him. I don’t want to leave just because I’m lonely. But I also don’t want to ignore what I’m feeling and eventually become resentful.

For people who have been in LDRs especially relationships where you haven’t met yet—how did you deal with this kind of longing when there was no realistic end date to the distance?

What would you do in my situation? :(
