What am I doing wrong?
So this plant has been through it a bit recently. It was originally my grandmas, but she has some health issues that caused her to be away from home and my mom took her new plants and potted them all in one pot. I rescued them and separated them. This plant means a lot to me because I bought it with my grandma.
I gave this calathea a soil mix of chunky perlite and peat moss(I’m new to plants and panic bought but I’ve done more research and know why this is terrible for the environment now)
My mom had it tightly packed into really moist miraclegro for about a week but it looked like it was on the mend here. It lost a leaf after its second repotting but it had a new shoot. I’ve had it for two week and I was really worried about when to water it but the soil I planted it in was showing all the signs of being dry as hell by 5/9. So I gave it distilled water.
Within a couple days the left leaf started yellowing but the shoot in the middle which was healthy is now crispy and the lower left leaf which was healthy is also curled and crispy.
The soil looks dry again, but I have no idea what to do. The yellowing from what I’ve read means to much water and the curling means not enough water. When I replanted the roots looked fine they weren’t mushy or brown so I don’t think it’s root rot.
Do I water it today? Can I do something to help it or do I just have to wait and see?
Other factors
-It’s in an east window, but theres an alley with a taller building so maybe not enough light? I have east and south windows. My other aroid plants from this batch seem to like the south window, but I heard the calathea was more particular so I moved it.
-My locations regularly humidity is above 50 generally(today it’s 68) so I haven’t been doing anything special for that.
- The temp in my apartment is general 68-74 degrees but it is by a window that gets opened sometimes so it could be a degree or two colder or warmer.
